Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G goes official, to debut with the POCO X3

Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G

Back in April last year, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 730 and 730G as the best offering for upper-mid-range smartphones. Since the announcement, a plethora of smartphones came with these chipsets. In an era of 5G chipsets, Qualcomm decided to refresh the SD730G family with a newer Snapdragon 732G promising a performance increase.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G – The next step for gaming mid-ranges

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G is an important improvement for the Snapdragon 730G. One of the biggest differences in the presence of a Prime Core featuring higher clock speed. For instance, the Snapdragon 732G has a 2.3GHz clock speed for this core, whereas the SD730G offers 2.2GHz speeds. Interestingly enough, the newer chipset also comes with 1 Kyro 470 “Prime” core clocked at up to 2.3Ghz, 1x Kyro 470 “Performance” core clocked at up to 2.2GHz, and 6x Kyro 470 “Efficiency” cores clocked at up to 1.8Gz. The new chipset comes to keep the tradition as a gaming-centric chipset. For those unaware, the Prime and Performance Cores are based on ARM’s Cortex-A76 design while the six  Efficiency cores are based on ARM’s Cortex-A55 design. The chipset uses the Samsung 8nm LPP process.

Snapdragon 732G

Since this chipset carries the Gaming Pedigree, it brings Snapdragon Elite Gaming features. This comprises some useful features like Qualcomm Game Jank Reducer, Vulkan 1.1 Graphics Driver, True HDR, and anti-cheat extensions. Moreover, we have Spectra 350 Image Signal Processor with support for 4K HDR video capture. Other features include the 4th gen Qualcomm AI Engine, Hexagon 688 DSP, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+. Connectivity is ensured by the Snapdragon X15 LTE modem offering for 3-CA and 4×4 MIMO on two carriers. It also supports Qualcomm FastConnect 6200 subsystem.

Coming soon on a POCO smartphone

Interestingly, Qualcomm went ahead POCO by revealing the arrival of this chipset in an upcoming POCO smartphone. The device will be the first to come with the Snapdragon 732G. Could it be the POCO X3 handset that we’re talking a lot about lately? The POCO X2 boasts the Snapdragon 730G, so it would be natural so see a successor with the SD732G.

“Snapdragon 732G will deliver a powerful gaming experience, sophisticated on-device AI, and superior performance. We’re excited to work with POCO on the new POCO smartphone powered by the enhanced Snapdragon 732G globally.”

“We are extremely excited about the upcoming POCO smartphone and our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies that allowed us to create the first device on the market with the latest Snapdragon 732G Mobile Platform. We believe the device will set a new benchmark in the mid-range category, completely redefining the relationship between a phone’s price and its capabilities.”

POCO already started a teaser campaign for the upcoming POCO X3. The device is expected for the next month and seems to be the perfect opportunity to see the Snapdragon 732G in action.
