OnePlus 8 / 8 Pro Android 11 kernel source released

OnePlus 8

OnePlus may be busy with the big revelation of OnePlus 8T in October as well as the arrival of other smartphones. However, the development team keeps its attention on fixing all the remaining bugs on the Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 update. The company is yet to release a stable build for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro with its latest skin and that should happen in the next months. Ahead of it, OnePlus is publishing the Android 11 kernel source code for these devices. Now, developers can even dig into this code to build stable Android 11 custom ROMs for these phones.

OnePlus is always one step behind other OEMs with its Android releases. In the next month, the OnePlus 8T is set to become the first non-Google phone to launch with Android 11. The 8 and 8 Pro will probably be the first devices to get a stable Android 11 update in this latter quarter of 2020. OxygenOS is well known for being close to stock Android, but with its 11th iteration, the company is changing a lot of the aspects in the software, in a bid to create a proper identity.

The source code is based on OxygenOS 11, but developers can easily base their work on it to provide bugless custom ROMs. Check the source code for further details.
