TikTok acquires the copyright of Sony Music Entertainment’s songs

TikTok: This the Company's Official Statement Following the Ban

According to a Bloomberg report, TikTok now has access to songs from thousands of artists, including Beyonce and Travis Scott. This is as a result of the new agreement between Sony Music Entertainment and TikTok. The agreement will deepen the connection between the world’s second-largest record company group and popular short video applications.

TikTok and Sony Music Entertainment said the agreement ensures that TikTok customers will continue to be able to use Sony Records’ songs, including Columbia Records and RCA (Radio American Records). The agreement also requires the app to cooperate with Sony’s label to carry out projects to market its artists and identify emerging talents.

According to an insider, TikTok’s copyright fees to Sony has increased significantly over the agreement. However, the two companies did not give any details of the contract.

TikTok is still dealing with the threat of a U.S. ban

Both companies have been negotiating for months regarding a contract renewal. During their negotiation period, the Chinese manufacturer had to deal with the ban threat from the U.S. government. With more than 100 million users on the line, it had to slow down the negotiations. However, there seems to be some hope for the short video app. On Friday, a federal judge in Pennsylvania blocked a series of extensive restrictions that the government aimed to curb TikTok’s use in the United States.

TikTok has about 700 million users worldwide by providing fascinating music video loop playback. The application allows record companies to put their songs in front of young and influential music listeners. For Sony, TikTok not only promotes the development of old songs, such as Matthew Wilder’s “Break My Stride”, but also promotes the development of new songs, such as Doja Cat’s “Say So” and 24kGoldn’s “Mood”.

Record companies are reluctant to take their music off TikTok, and it has become one of the most important promotion platforms for artists around the world.

The music industry has accepted the Chinese app because it has recognized its star-making potential. Sony Music’s label revolves around TikTok to create marketing campaigns for newly released musical works. TikTok is now tied with YouTube, Facebook, Spotify, Apple, and Amazon. It is one of the most important promotion platforms in the music industry.

The use of a song on TikTok does not suppress the number of listeners on the paid platform. If there is, it is an incentive for people to pay for the song.
