The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC is a top flagship smartphone processor in the market. Although MediaTek is getting set to unveil a new flagship processor, it will not be on-par with the Snapdragon 888. Samsung also has the Exynos 2100 which is a direct competitor with the SD888. However, not many third-party phone maker uses Exynos chipset. This means that there will be a lot of pressure on the Snapdragon 888. OnePlus is one of many Chinese manufacturers that have indicated their interest to release a phone with the Snapdragon 888 processor. The OnePlus 9 series will use this chip, however, one model (OnePlus 9 Lite) in the series will not.
The OnePlus 9 Lite is a mid-range (or lower-end) phone in the OnePlus 9 series. However, if the latest reports are true, it will still use a flagship chip. Recent reports show that the OnePlus 9 Lite will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. This is Qualcomm’s 2019 flagship processor and the direct predecessor to the Snapdragon 888.

Furthermore, the reports claim that the overall configuration of the OnePlus 9 Lite is very different from the OnePlus 8T. This smartphone will come with a high refresh rate AMOLED full screen. It will also have a triple rear camera setup as well as Android 11 out-of-the-box.
The news also claims that the OnePlus 9 Lite may not use the 65W ultra-fast flash charging technology. Currently, the OnePlus 8T already supports 65W flash charging. The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro will likely support 65W or higher power fast charging.
As for the official release date, all speculations point to a March release date for the OnePlus 9 series. In addition to the OnePlus 9 Lite, there will also be OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. The expectations are that these phones will launch in the same event. Reports indicate that the OnePlus 9 Lite will be unveiled in the Chinese and Indian markets. It is not yet certain whether it will launch in Europe.

Further, the battery of the vanilla is getting a significant bump from the 4,300mAh in the vanilla 8 to the 4,500mAh battery in the OnePlus 9.
