Black Shark 4 and 4 Pro certified by 3C alongside their 120W charger

March is nearing the shores and it brings the end of the first quarter of 2021. Many companies are preparing new smartphones for the last month of Q1 2021, among them, we have the gaming bandwagon. Companies such as Xiaomi and Nubia are gearing up to bring new Black Shark and Red Magic smartphones, respectively. Over the past months, we have been seeing multiple leaks revealing what to expect of new gaming devices. Today, the Black Shark 4 and Black Shark 4 Pro have passed by 3C certification alongside their 120W charger.

Black Shark has been teasing the 120W fast-charging capabilities of its gaming phone for quite some time. Now, the certification proves that the company isn’t playing with its fans and will really bring a cutting-edge charging tech. This will allow the phone’s 4,500mAh battery to be filled in under 15 minutes. So, even though the 4,500mAh isn’t the biggest of batteries, especially for a gaming phone, it can be charged in just a few minutes.

The certification confirms that the MDY-12-ED is the power brick. It tops out at 20V output at 6A current with a note “only for altitude 5,000m and below” that shouldn’t be a problem unless you try to charge your phone at Everest. Jokes aside, we believe that this is regarding charging on planes. We assume that Xiaomi is using the usual dual-cell battery technology on its Black Shark 4 phones. After all, a regular battery can’t withstand a 120W charging rate.

Interestingly, the 120W charging will not be a feature exclusive to a specific variant. Both devices will support this insane fast-charging tech. One of the models is KSR-A0 (Kaiser) while the other has a PRS-A0 model number (Penrose). For now, it’s unclear which is the vanilla and which is the Pro variant. Anyway, both variants will have the very same Snapdragon 888 chipset. So the differences between the duo of gaming phones will be mostly incremental.

The Kaiser variant passed by Google Play Console a couple of days ago. The device has 8GB of RAM and an FHD+ resolution. This resolution isn’t a surprise, since companies are keeping gaming phones with stable FHD+ instead of stressing the GPU with a QHD+ resolution. According to TENAA, the phone will have a 6.67-inch display and 10.3mm thickness. Its sibling, the Penrose, leaked on the console with 12GB of RAM. So we presume that the Kaiser is the vanilla, and Penrose is the Black Shark 4 Pro.

Although both Black Shark 4 phones are leaking a lot lately, we don’t have an official date for their launch. As we mentioned before, rumors suggest a March launch. But we still need to hear this from Xiaomi.
