macOS 27, iPadOS 27 and watchOS 27 Are Out Today: Check Your Device

Apple is releasing its new software for Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro today and... there's some work to be done. macOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 will soon be rolling out to supported devices - but the big question is simple: does your Apple device get the update?

macOS 27 is the first Mac update that leaves Intel Macs behind. Apple now limits the new version to Macs with Apple silicon.

The list includes the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air models with Apple silicon from 2020, and newer MacBook Pro models with Apple silicon from 2020. It also covers Apple silicon iMac models from 2021, Mac mini models from 2020, Mac Studio models from 2022, and the Apple silicon Mac Pro from 2023.

If you have an Intel Mac, macOS 26 is the end of the road for major macOS updates. Apple has also ended Rosetta support with macOS 27.

The new release brings the Liquid Glass design to more parts of the Mac. It also adds new Apple Intelligence tools and the Siri AI upgrade.

iPadOS 27 supports a wide range of newer iPads. The list starts with the fourth-generation iPad Pro, fourth-generation iPad Air, ninth-generation iPad, and sixth-generation iPad mini.

So, if you bought an iPad in recent years, there is a good chance that it is supported. Older models below these generations will stay on the previous version.

iPadOS 27 also adds new multitasking tools and more changes based on the Liquid Glass design. Apple Intelligence is part of the update too, but some features need newer hardware.

watchOS 27 is also rolling out today. Apple supports the Apple Watch SE 3, Series 9 and newer, plus the Ultra 2 and newer Ultra models.

The update adds new health and fitness tools. It also brings more Apple Intelligence features to the Apple Watch, along with changes to the interface.

Some features will depend on the watch model and the iPhone it is paired with.

Apple Vision Pro is getting visionOS 27 on the same day. The update adds new features for Apple's spatial device and brings it closer to the rest of Apple's software family.

Vision Pro is still a much smaller platform than the Mac, iPad, or Apple Watch. Still, Apple continues to add new tools with each major update.

Siri AI is one of the biggest changes in Apple's new software. The updated assistant can understand harder requests and work with more parts of Apple's software.

There is a catch. Siri AI is launching in beta, and Apple is limiting some features by language and region. Users in Europe may not get the full set of Siri AI features at launch.

Apple Intelligence also remains limited by device support. Having the new operating system does not mean that every AI feature will work on every device.

Apple is releasing macOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 on September 14. You can check for the update in the Software Update section on your device.

Before you install it, make sure your important data is backed up. The first version of a big software update can still have bugs, so waiting a few days is also a fair choice if your device is needed for work.
