Apple's newly launched iPhone 18 Pro brings a great charging speed upgrade, but hitting the phone's fastest charging speed requires a specific adapter that Apple doesn't include in the box.

The numbers

According to Apple's own published tech specs, the iPhone 18 Pro can charge from 0% to 50% in about 15 minutes, but only when paired with a 60W USB-C adapter. That's a genuine improvement over the iPhone 17 Pro, which needed 20 minutes to hit the same 50% mark - roughly 33% faster. Apple also says a quick 5-minute top-up at this charging speed is enough for about 6 hours of video playback, useful if you're rushing out the door.

The charger

Apple's spec sheet references "a 60W USB-C adapter," but if you go looking for a product with that exact name in Apple's store, you won't find one. The closest match is the 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max. Thats the same adapter Apple introduced alongside last year's iPhone 17. On top of that, no power adapter comes in the box at all, you only get a USB-C cable.

Why MacBook chargers won't help here

You might assume a higher-wattage MacBook charger, like a 96W or 140W brick, would work even better. According to Apple's stated requirements tho, the charger also needs to support USB PD 3.1 with Adjustable Voltage Supply. A specific feature standard MacBook chargers generally don't include, even at higher wattages. So more watts alone doesn't guarantee the fastest charge; matching Apple's exact spec does.

Wireless charging compared

If you'd rather skip cables, Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro can hit 50% in about 30 minutes wirelessly, using a MagSafe Charger paired with a 35W power brick, twice as long as the wired option, but that is a typical thing for wireless charging.
