ColorOS 17 Is Coming: These OPPO Phones Should Get the Android 17 Update

OPPO is almost ready to show us ColorOS 17, its next major software update based on Android 17. The company will officially unveil it on September 17, alongside the new Find X10 series in China.

The update brings a redesigned interface, smoother animations, better multitasking and a new generation of AI features. More importantly, we now have a good idea of which OPPO phones should receive it.

ColorOS 17 launches on September 17

The OPPO Find X10 series will be the first to ship with ColorOS 17, but existing phones won't have to wait forever.

OPPO has already started closed beta testing on several devices, including the Find N6, Find X9 series and Pad 5 Pro. Testing has also expanded to selected OnePlus and Realme devices in China and India.

The wider stable rollout is expected to begin later this year. As usual, newer flagship phones should be first, followed by Reno, F and K-series devices.

The exact schedule will depend on the country and model, so don't expect every phone below to receive ColorOS 17 on the same day.

The final global rollout list hasn't been announced yet. Based on OPPO's current software support policies and eligible Android 17 devices, however, these are the models expected to receive the update:

Some regional versions may have different update plans. I would also treat this as an expected list until OPPO publishes its final ColorOS 17 roadmap.

A much more fluid interface

The visual changes are probably the first thing you'll notice after installing ColorOS 17. OPPO is introducing a new floating island navigation system across the OS and its built-in apps. Buttons and other interface elements can stretch, compress and react as you touch them, giving the whole system a more physical feel.

We've already seen some of this in early ColorOS 17 teasers, and I like the direction OPPO is taking. Instead of completely redesigning everything again, the company seems to be polishing what already worked in ColorOS 16.

OPPO is also claiming some big performance gains. Early information points to around 35% smoother interface performance, 20% faster cold app launches and up to 50% more apps remaining active in the background.

Those numbers sound great, but I'll wait for real phones before getting too excited. Keeping apps alive for longer is far more useful to me than making an animation look slightly prettier.

AI gets another big upgrade

ColorOS 17 will also introduce the next version of OPPO's Xiaobu AI assistant in China.

The new assistant should have deeper access to system features and better awareness of what you're doing on the phone. We can also expect more AI tools for photos, writing and everyday tasks.

The exact AI features available globally could be different. OPPO already limits some ColorOS AI tools based on region, language and cloud support, so not everything announced in China is guaranteed to reach European phones.

ColorOS 17 will also include the main changes introduced with Android 17, along with OPPO's own privacy, battery and performance improvements.

This could be one of OPPO's biggest updates

ColorOS has changed a lot over the past few years. What used to feel like a heavily customized Android skin has become much cleaner and, more importantly, very fast.

ColorOS 17 doesn't appear to throw that work away. OPPO is focusing on smoother animations, faster apps and better multitasking while adding new visual touches on top.

We'll get the full picture on September 17, when ColorOS 17 makes its official debut with the Find X10 series. Until then, remember that the device list above is based on current eligibility information and isn't OPPO's final global rollout roadmap.
