OnePlus Nord gets OxygenOS 10.5.11 update with January 2021 security patch

OnePlus Nord DxoMark

Back in the last year, OnePlus unveiled its first mid-range phone in years in the form of the OnePlus Nord. The device came with a mid-range Snapdragon 765G providing 5G connectivity. It also packed an OLED panel and a Quad-Camera setup with OIS – something that isn’t common on mid-range devices. Of course, the OnePlus Nord is costlier than most mid-range phones but still isn’t as expensive as a flagship. The device got other two siblings in October dubbed OnePlus Nord N10 and OnePlus Nord N100. With more devices, the OnePlus development team has more concerns like providing constant updates for each one of them. Today, the brand is rolling out OxygenOS 10.5.11 for the original Nord.

The new update, as abovementioned brings OxygenOS version 10.5.11. So it still is based on Android 10. Some users were expecting the Android 11 update to finally roll out with OxygenOS 11 for this device. But that does not seem to be the case. OnePlus is taking more time to update its smartphones than last year. The reason is what we’ve said before, the brand has a lot more devices to update. The new update brings some improvements, underhood bug fixes, and January 2021 security patch. Unfortunately, it does not bring any kind of feature. We’re not expecting any new feature to pop out now that OxygenOS 11 clearly is the company’s focus.

OnePlus Nord

Unfortunately, the OxygenOS 10.5.11 does not bring February 2021 security patch

Unfortunately, for the OnePlus Nord series, the Chinese firm is being slower than other companies. So far, other OEMs such as Samsung, Realme, Xiaomi, and others are already rolling out February 2021 security patch. There are several mid-range phones receiving Android 11 right now. As we’ve mentioned before, OnePlus certainly is needing a restructuring on its department of software.  It launched more smartphones, but the amount of developers bringing updates does not seem to be growing in the same way. This explains why the brand is taking so much time to bring OxygenOS 11 to its last year’s handsets. Samsung, which has been considered one of the worst companies in the past, nowadays is rolling Android 11 for several of its phones, even mid-range phones.

From the OnePlus portfolio, only the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, and 8T have received the Android 11 update so far. The OnePlus Nord already had three open beta circles testing Android 11. So, one can assume that the brand is in its final stages of Android 11 testing. Hopefully, these devices will receive OxygenOS 11 before the OnePlus 9 series arrival. As OnePlus tends to shift its focus to the newer handsets.
