Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 6nm processor released

Qualcomm has released a couple of processors since the launch of the Snapdragon 888 last year. Today, the company unveiled another mid-range chipset, the Snapdragon 778G 5G mobile platform. This processor is a 6nm chip and it expands Qualcomm’s 7 series product portfolio. The Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset uses Qualcomm Kryo 670 CPU. This processor can achieve a 40% performance improvement and it also has excellent energy efficiency. Its Adreno 642L GPU graphics rendering speed is about 40% faster than the previous generation.

In terms of artificial intelligence, Snapdragon 778G 5G has the sixth generation of artificial intelligence performance engine. It uses Hexagon 770 processor, with 12 TOPS performance. In order to enhance gaming, this chip comes with the Snapdragon Elite game function.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G mobile platform supports FHD+ display with refresh rate up to 144Hz. It has a built-in Qualcomm Spectra 570L triple ISP support: up to 192MP single camera, or up to 36MP + 22MP dual camera, or up to 22MP triple cameras.

In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset has a Snapdragon X53 5G modem with a peak download speed of 3.3Gbps. It supports all key frequency bands, including mmWave and Sub-6 for TDD and FDD frequencies, NSA and SA modes, and dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS). The chipset also has a Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 connection system, which is said to provide unparalleled multi-gigabit Wi-Fi 6 speeds up to 2.9 Gbps.

Other features of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G mobile platform include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, GPS/GLONASS/NavIC/QZSS, USB 3.1, Qualcomm 3D Sonic/Sonic Max fingerprint sensor, Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 Technology, Qualcomm aptX adaptive audio, Snapdragon audio technology, etc.

According to @DigitalChatStation, the first smartphone to use this chip will be the Honor 50 series. This series will likely be a combination of both mid-range and flagship devices. It should have one mid-range and one flagship device or one mid-range and two flagships in the series.

Honor 50 series speculations

The Honor 50 series will have two or three models. There could be the Honor 50, Honor 50 Pro, and Honor 50 Pro+. The Honor 50 can be the mid-range device with the Snapdragon 778 5G SoC while Honor 50 Pro and Honor 50 Pro+ will be the flagships. Reports so far claim that the Honor 50 Pro+ will use the flagship SD888 SoC. According to a recent 3C certification, the Honor 50 series will support between 66W and 100W fast charging. As for the release date, the reports so far claim that the Honor 50 series will arrive in the first half of this year. However, there are rumors that this device will launch in early June.
