In order to achieve comparability, excluding one-off factors such as equity transactions (this fiscal year and the previous fiscal year), asset write-downs, and new coronavirus global aid fund expenditures, operating profit increased by 34% year-on-year, and net profit increased by 16%.

These numbers are breathtaking. But for an average user, they have no sense. However, the next indicator performance we are going to talk about is much more interesting.

Sony said it sold 2.3 million PlayStation 5 models and 500,000 PlayStation 4 models in the first quarter.

Gizchina News of the week

The cumulative shipment of PlayStation 5 consoles reached 10.1 million units, the cumulative shipments of the PlayStation 4 consoles reached 116.4 million units. Also, the monthly active users reached 104 million, and the PlayStation+ users reached 46.3 million.

In addition, physical game revenue reached 25.6 billion yen ($0.23 billion), and digital version + additional revenue (PS store) reached 320.4 billion yen ($2.93 billion).

Earlier this year, Sony officially released the PlayStation 5. However, it has been out of stock since the first sale. So many gamers have been waiting for the follow-up batches.

PlayStation 5 sales

According to the information previously disclosed by Sony, the PlayStation 5 console is expected to continue to suffer from a shortage of supply until 2022.

Sony has said that part of the PlayStation 5’s shortage is due to strong demand. But one of the biggest reasons is the shortage of semiconductors and other parts. The current global semiconductor industry suffers a lot because of shortages. This makes the PlayStation 5 unable to produce enough products.

Well, as you understand Sony is offering products and services that benefited a lot during the lockdown period. Just take the PlayStation 5 as an example. It has become one of the best products helping people “kill time” at home.
