Apple’s September 14, iPhone 13 keynote finally happened! The company unveiled the new iPhone 13 series, the new Apple Watch Series 7, and a bunch of novelties. However, there were all some nice surprises such as a new iPad model and a new refreshed iPad mini 6. We’ve been seeing rumors floating about the release of a new iPad Mini tablet for quite some time, but we had to wait until today to see if it was really coming. Apple brought the answer to all iPad mini enthusiasts with a new fresh model, boasting a new design, larger display, and a USB C port. Let’s dive into the specifications of this new tablet.
Apple iPad mini 6 (2021) specifications
So far, Apple has been sticking with the same design for its iPad mini models, however, the iPad Mini 6 is here to bring some neat changes. The company has overhauled the design with flat edges and curved corners of the screen to bring it in line with the recent iPhone models and iPad. Even the Apple Watch Series 7 now has a design market by the flatness.
The new display is larger with an 8.3-inch diagonal and Liquid Retina moniker. Interestingly, this is a slight increment over the iPad mini 7.9-inch display. Another change in design is the Home button removal. The Touch ID sensor has been moved to the power button and the device lacks Face ID. According to Apple, the new tablets are made of 100% recycled aluminum, so the new tablets are ecologically friendly.
Apple also introduces the TrueTone feature in the iPad mini 6 and boosts the brightness to 500 nits. So seeing the content in the sun might not be a problem. To enhance the multimedia experience, the new tablet also has stereo speakers in landscape orientation. The new tablet allows you to snap your Apple Pencil (2nd gen) on the side using magnets.
Another addition is the new USB-C port which enhances connectivity between different products. The new compact tablet comes in Wi-Fi and Cellular variants. The latter offers 5G connectivity and it’s capable to reach speeds of 3.5 Gbps per second.
In terms of performance, the iPad mini comes with the latest generation Apple A15 Bionic chipset. That’s right, Apple is giving the best possible mobile SoC for the mini-tablet. It represents a massive 40% performance jump when compared to older iPad mini as well as an 80% leap in the GPU department.
When it comes to optics, the iPad mini 6 boasts a new 12 MP main camera with True Tone Flash and an f/1.8 aperture. The front-facing camera is also very good with a 12 MP sensor and an ultrawide view.
The new iPad mini 6 will run iPad OS 15 natively.
Pricing and Availability
The Wi-Fi variant of the iPad mini 6 starts at the $499 price tag. The 5G version comes in at $649, so you’re paying a lot more for mobile connectivity. Both base variants deliver 64 GB of Internal Storage, however, there are other options with up to 256 GB.
The pre-orders for the iPad mini 6 start today. However, shipments will begin on September 24. For now, Apple is offering the new slate in Space Gray, Pink, Purple, and Starlight colorways.
