Apple App Store can’t search accurately but Ads are still accurate

Apple iOS 14 app store

Apple is a top manufacturer and some users consider the company to be “perfect”. From multiple comments on our feed, you can tell that some folks believe that Apple is the “only” company with original products and safe systems. However, the reality is that things are far from perfect even with Apple. Since the release of the iOS 15 system, there have been reports of bugs on the system. Today, many netizens reported that Apple’s App Store was malfunctioning. The App Store is unable to search accurately for an app. This makes searching for an application in the App Store very difficult at the moment.

Interestingly, this malfunction of the App Store search engine does not seem to affect the ads. Although the content you search for does not display accurately, the advertising push is still very accurate and recommends similar apps. For instance, when you search for a news app like Sina Finance, it will recommend The Paper, search for e-commerce platforms like Jingdong, it will recommend Vipshop, and so on.

App Store search results for general search also malfunction

In addition to the failure of the precise search, some of the results of the fuzzy search do not display accurately. For example, if you search for “video”, you will find some learning apps, wallpapers, and tools apps, but no video apps like Tencent Video, iQiyi, Station B, etc. Also, if you search for “social”, it will display apps like pictures and learning apps.

Ironically, Apple’s App Store also launched a search tag feature in April this year, claiming that it can make “app search more accurate”. This is not the first time that such an issue is happening with the Apple App Store. According to public reports, in 2012, 2016, etc., the App Store experienced phenomena such as the “inability to accurately match results”. In the malfunction of May 2016, the keyword error rate was as high as 95%.

As of now, it appears that this issue is not a widespread one because most of the complaints are from China. There is also no confirmation if this issue is specific to the App Store for Chinese models. However, as of now, there is no fix for the issue. Also, there is no official comment from Apple regarding this issue. Nevertheless, we do not expect this issue to persist for long even if it is a small-scale bug. The company will most likely quietly release a fix for this issue as soon as possible.
