Oppo A55s launched with Snapdragon 480 and 90Hz display

Oppo A55s

Around one week ago, Oppo A55s renders have emerged followed by Geekbench, Bluetooth SIG, and FCC certifications. Now, the device is official and is set to hit the shelves in the next week. Interestingly, the device is hitting the Japanese market at this first moment but will hit other markets in South Asia pretty soon. It’s the latest offering from Oppo in Japan in a while. The handset brings affordable prices and cost-effective specifications, but it can still provide 5G connectivity.

Oppo A55s specifications

The Oppo A55s flaunts a 6.5-inch Full HD+ LCD screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the phone boasts the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 SoC with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of Internal Storage. This processor is Qualcomm’s lowest-end offering for the 5G segment. It still is better than any other SD400 series and is even better than the Snapdragon 662. In addition to this, there is a micro SD card slot for memory expansion.

In terms of the camera, the Oppo A55s sports a dual-camera setup on the back. There is a primary 13 MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture paired with a 2 MP depth sensor and a LED flash. Moreover, there is an 8 MP selfie snapper on the front for video calls and modest selfies. The camera app comes loaded with various advanced modes like Ultra Night Mode, Portrait Mode, and AI Scene Enhancement.

Gizchina News of the week

Interestingly, this is the first Oppo A-series smartphone to come with some sort of dust and water protection. Unfortunately, the exact IP rating is not yet clarified. According to reports, it’s IPX8 / IP6X. The phone runs with Android 11 straight out of the box and ColorOS 15 runs at the top. It should be updated to Android 12 and ColorOS 12 at some point but we wouldn’t hold our breath for it.

In terms of connectivity, the Oppo A55s has Bluetooth 5.0, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 4G with VoLTE, and of course, 5G. The phone has a USB C port for charging and data transfer alongside a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Pricing and Availability

The Oppo A55s is priced at JPY 33,800 which roughly translates to around $295. The phone will be going for sale in Japan starting on November 26. The pre-registration for sale start today. The handset ships in Green and Black colorways. As per the reports, the phone can launch in other markets in Asia. However, Oppo is yet to announce more details about availability.
