Origin OS Ocean update will be revealed on December 9

OriginOS

Back in the last year, Vivo announced a major overhaul for its software skin in the form of OriginOS. However, much to our surprise, this new skin with a different design and layout was exclusive to the Chinese market. Global smartphones are still shipped with FuntouchOS which keeps evolving in its own way. We already know that Android 12 will come with FuntouchOS 12 in future global Vivo smartphones, but what will happen to OriginOS? Now, we have the answer: Vivo will release a new version dubbed OriginOS Ocean on December 9.

In the next week, Vivo will be announcing its “Ocean” version of OriginOS. The new update will be rolled out for a dozen smartphones in the first wave. More devices should get it in the subsequent waves, and 2022 smartphones will likely ship with their straight out of the box.

We assume that the new OriginOS Ocean update will be based on Android 12. However, as a heavily-customized UI users shouldn’t notice much of Android 12 apart from some system-wide features. As per the reports, the update will bring improved features for mobile use, as well as easy cross-device navigation with PC and file transfers. This has been a common approach for many of the Chinese skins lately.

Gizchina News of the week

In terms of design, OriginOS Ocean will keep the grid system with multiple widgets and gesture navigation. In China, the UI has become high among Vivo users since the first iteration of OriginOS.

The company will roll out the official closed beta list once the event takes place in 10 days. However, leaksters already revealed its preliminary version. The list of devices getting the first update includes a wide array of Vivo flagships. However, there is still space for a handful of mid-range phones, as long as they are part of the S series. Again, the update is only for the Chinese versions of smartphones. The global handsets will still come with FuntouchOS, and we don’t see Vivo expanding OriginOS for the time being.
