Huawei Mate 50 with HarmonyOS 3.0 to launch in June

Huawei Mate 50 Pro

At the Huawei Winter New Product Launch Conference held on December 23 last year, Huawei’s consumer business CEO, Yu Chengdong, revealed that the number of devices with the Harmony system exceeds 220 million. In fact, as of December 2, 135 devices have been upgraded to the official version of HarmongOS 2. According to speculations, the new iteration HarmonyOS 3.0 will be in the market by July. Thus, there are speculations that Huawei’s product launch conference at the end of the second quarter will launch this system. At this event, the company will probably release the Huawei Mate 50 series which should use the HarmonyOS 3.0 system.

At the end of last year, Derek Yu, president of Huawei’s consumer business in Central and Eastern Europe, Northern Europe and Canada revealed that a new Mate model will be launched in 2022. However, he did not say that this will be the Huawei Mate 50 series. He also did not mention whether or not this device will use the new HarmonyOS 3.0.

It is also worth mentioning that the Open Atom Foundation recently distributed the OpenHarmony 3.1 Beta system to the open-source community, bringing some improvements to the underlying basic modules and application layers. OpenHarmony Beta is usually a preview of the official version of Harmony. For example, HarmonyOS 3.0 is built based on OpenHarmony 2.2 Beta 2.

Huawei Mate 50 series speculations

According to the speculations so far, the Huawei Mate 50 series will use the same LTPO display as the iPhone 13 Pro series. Furthermore, this display will support the adaptive refresh rate which does not only achieves a 120Hz high refresh rate but also saves power.

In addition to the 4G Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC, this device may also have the Kirin 9000 version. The Snapdragon 898 is a flagship processor that uses Samsung’s 4nm manufacturing process. This chip uses a 1 + 3 + 4 architecture. It has one 3.0GHz Cortex X2 large core, three 2.5GHz Cortex A78 large core, and four 1.79GHz Cortex A55 small cores. On AnTuTu, this chip will most likely exceed one million for the first time. According to previous reports, the Snapdragon 898 chip will debut at the end of this year (expected in December). As of now, there is no specific launch date for the upcoming Huawei Mate 50 series.

There are side reports that the company will cancel the Mate 50 series. This is probably not true considering the latest report. According to popular Weibo leakster, @DCS, Huawei is currently testing the Huawei Mate 50 series. He also claims that this device will use the model sm8425. This suggests that the company may use the latest Snapdragon 898 on the Mate 50 series. Obviously, this chip will be the 4G version just like with the P50 series. The blogger did not directly say that he is referring to the Huawei Mate 50 series in his latest report. However, he called this smartphone a “business flagship”. Considering that Huawei does not release many flagships presently, he is most likely referring to the Huawei Mate 50 series.
