Xiaomi 12 Ultra to use a 5x periscope super-telephoto camera

Xiaomi 12 Ultra smartphone

Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi 12 series in December last year. At the time, the company announced three models including Xiaomi 12X, Xiaomi 12, and Xiaomi 12 Pro. However, there are reports that this series has another flagship model. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra will arrive probably in March and there are already reports of its features. The latest report on the Xiaomi 12 Ultra claims that it uses a 5x periscope telephoto camera which many devices do not have.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra

Popular Weibo tech blogger @DCS, said: “Looking at the telephoto plan of the next Chinese new phone, there are still a few 5x periscope super-telephoto new phones, but at present at the high-pixel 5x telephoto imaging of the L1, it is relatively better, and there are new technologies…ā€

Although the Weibo translation is a bit rusty, we can deduce that L1 will come with a 5x periscope super-telephoto camera. Actually, L1 is the codename for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. From previous renders of this device, it has a square opening on the back which implies that it will use aĀ periscope lens.

It is worth noting that in addition to the periscope lens, the rear camera part of the phone may have other unexpected highlights. This is because the rear camera module of the phone in the rendering is very exaggerated. It not only has a lot of openings but also has a relatively large area covering theĀ upper half of the entire back.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra speculations

According to reports, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra may adopt a triple main camera system + ultra-telephoto lens solution.Ā More importantly, there is a lot of news that the phone will cooperate with Leica and become Xiaomi’s first high-end flagship phone certified by Leica.

Previously, only two mobile phone manufacturers, Huawei and Sharp, cooperated with Leica and obtained Leica certification. If Xiaomi and Leica cooperate, Xiaomi will become the third mobile phone manufacturer to obtain Leica certification.

The main camera of this smartphone could be the 50-megapixel Samsung GN5 sensor. This smartphone could have one other 48-megapixel sensor and one or two with 50 megapixels. Among them, they promise a couple of periscopic sensors with support for 5x and 10x zoom.

There is no doubt that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will offer a 120 Hz AMOLED display; with QuadHD + resolution, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 platform; up to 12 GB of RAM, and up to 512 GB of storage; a battery with a capacity of at least 4500 mAh; with fast wired and wireless charging. However, we will for sure discover more details in the upcoming few days.
