OnePlus Nord 2 gets first OxygenOS 12 Open beta

OnePlus has just introduced the OnePlus 10R and the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite. The latter serves as a cost-effective version of the device that already stands as a cost-effective version for the OnePlus Nord 2 – the OnePlus Nord CE 2. Today was a big day for OnePlus enthusiasts in India due to the release of these new smartphones, but the OnePlus Nord 2 also got an important spotlight. The device from 2021, is finally getting the first OxygenOS 12 Open Beta to build that introduces it to Android 12. It took a while, but it’s good to see the update coming for the first MediaTek-powered OnePlus smartphones. We all know that phones running MediaTek chips can be problematic to update, however, this may change now that more and more brands are using these SoCs.

The OnePlus Nord 2 owners certainly had to wait a long long time for the update. It’s nothing close to what OnePlus had been doing in recent years. However, the company’s merger with Oppo changed a lot of its philosophies. Anyway, it’s better late than never. Hopefully, the phone will get an Android 12 stable update ahead of the Android 13 release. The Open Beta means that the update is available to the general public. However, it does not mean that it’s a stable update. The firmware still carries the “beta” status, hence, it’s not totally safe for daily usage. You can find bugs, and that’s exactly the point of testing this update. So, if the phone is your daily driver, it’s better to keep your phone on the stable channel for a longer time.

OxygenOS 12 brings improvements and new features for the OnePlus Nord 2

Worth noting, that the Open Beta 1 will make some of the Nord 2 Pac-Man Edition features disappear. So, if you’ve bought this special variant, it’s better to skip the update for now. Anyway, the update brings all the goodies introduced by Google with Android 12. Unfortunately, OxygenOS 12 traces its own path and is more ColorOS-field than previous versions. Thankfully, this will change as OxygenOS 13 will go back to the close to vanilla Android. The update introduces an AI System Booster 2.1. It comes to make the system run smoothly even when the load is high. Furthermore, there is a Smart Battery Engine and “smart algorithms and biomimetic self-restoration technology. There are also improved app icons, optimized Extra HD, three adjustable Dark Mode Levels, and more. Users will see upgrades in Shelf, Work-Life Balance, Gallery, Canvas AOD, and the HyperBoost stabilizer for the games.

Worth noting that at the time of this writing, only the Indian variant can get this OxygenOS 12 Open beta 1. OnePlus is gearing up to introduce a new device dubbed OnePlus Nord 2T. As the name suggests, it’s the T-refreshment coming for the Nord series.
