Elon Musk officially took over Twitter a few days ago in a deal worth $44 billion. Since the take-over, there has been uncertainty with regard to everything involving Twitter. One thing we know for sure is that there will be massive changes on Twitter. These changes will be on all levels of the company. Mr Musk already fired top executives of the company while others just left. Starting today, Twitter staff are already receiving their sack letters. According to Bloomberg News, Twitter employees are not leaving without a fight. The report claims that Twitter has been sued because Elon Musk plans to cut about 3,700 jobs. This account for half of its total workforce.

Twitter employees need two months’ notice

Employees claim the company is laying off workers without sufficient notice. They believe that this violates U.S. federal and California law. They filed a class-action lawsuit against the company in federal court in San Francisco on Thursday. In an email to employees, Twitter said the company plans to start laying off workers on Friday. Musk wants to cut costs for the company, including infrastructure costs.

The federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act restricts large companies from making mass layoffs without at least 60 days’ notice. The class-action lawsuit seeks a court order requiring Twitter to comply with the above-mentioned act and restricting the company from requiring employees to sign documents that could waive their right to participate in the lawsuit.

“We’re filing this tonight to make sure employees realize they shouldn’t give up their rights, they have a channel to pursue their rights,” Shannon Liss-Riordan, the attorney who filed Thursday’s complaint, said in an interview.

As of now, there is no official response from Twitter with respect to the lawsuit. In June, Musk’s Tesla cut about 10% of its workforce, and Liss-Riordan sued Tesla over similar claims.
