ASUS ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate – New gaming beasts launched

There is some controversy surrounding the future of gaming smartphones. Lenovo recently dropped its Lenovo Legion Smartphone branch, and Black Shark is reportedly going through issues with its upcoming Black Shark phones. As far as ASUS is concerned, the gaming smartphone branch is ready for another generation! After teasers and leaks, the company introduced today its new ASUS ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. These are the new contenders for the gaming smartphone branch and bring appealing hardware to conquer players.

ASUS ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate come with advanced cooling for the best performance!

Both ROG Phone 7 series phone pack the almighty Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. No surprises here, after all, the hardware of gaming phones is made to impress. The phones have up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM with 85533 Hz speed and up to 512 GB of UFS 4.0 Storage.  Both phones have the exact same horsepower, the differences are in the extra features. The Ultimate comes with a feature dubbed AeroActive Portal. It opens up to allow air directly onto the built-in vapor chamber. It’s a stunning and interesting feature, that also gives this phone some sort of “Transformers” feeling. The Ultimate also has the ROG Vision display n the back.

The hardware alone can’t make a good gaming smartphone. After all, without the fanciness, it could be a regular flagship. ASUS brings improvements to make the performance of these devices superior to any other. So, there are some improvements for the thermals. If the phone is cool, then the processor will work without throttling. There is a new GameCool7 cooling system. It brings a Boron Nitride layer, Dual Graphite Sheets, and an area of 16,000mm². It brings 10% more thermal efficiency.

The AeroActive Cooler 7

The ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate also includes the new AeroActive Cooler 7 in the box. It will keep the temperatures lower and will be a powerful tool when combined with the phone’s thermal efficiency. The phone will open its AeroActive portal when the Cooler 7 is connected for a bigger cooling advantage. As per the internal testing, the phone barely hurts after an hour of extreme usage. With usage, we assume it’s gaming usage.

The cooler also brings a super linear subwoofer. When aided by the ROG Phone 7 stereo speakers, we have a very immersive audio experience. The cooler also brings a 3.5 mm audio jack with Direct Tuning, just like the phones. The ROG Phone 7 series also brings AirTrigger Shoulder controls with support for Gestures and Gyroscope Aiming. There is an X-axis linear vibration motor to deliver realistic haptic feedback for on-screen buttons.

One of the most interesting features is ray-tracing support. If you play a game on the ROG Phone 7 that offers support for it, the hardware will be able to handle it. The problem now is that not many games have support for that feature on the mobile scene. However, it will be ready for the future.
