Twitter issues an alert: A privacy breach exposed “Circle” messages

There aren’t calm days at Twitter’s office after Elon Musk’s acquisitions. From controversial changes to layoffs, and now a security breach. The social media has just confirmed that a privacy breach resulted in the public exposure of Twitter meant for users under the “Twitter Circle” tag. To those unaware, these are messages set to “close friends”.

Twitter issues an alert about a security breach

As per The Guardian, Twitter issued an alert via email to the “affected users”. The social media says that some “tweets had escaped this containment”. Further, it states that a “security incident that occurred earlier this year may have allowed users outside of your Circle to see tweets that should have otherwise been limited to the Circle to which you were posting. The social media firm also says that the problem has been found by the security team and was properly fixed. Hence, your Circle messages are no longer visible to those outside.

Gizchina News of the week

This kind of incident makes us believe the multiple theories that Twitter is working at its limit. Elon Musk laid off several of the firm’s employees, and now, those who remained are working more. With the limited staff, we saw a delay in the rollout of new features like the new Blue verification tag. Also, this should be the cause behind all those issues that are rising. Despite this, Elon Musk states that the website will not be stable until a “complete rewrite” of its underlying code.

The social media website states that its goal is protecting the privacy of the people using its service. The company understands the risks of such an accident and deeply regrets this happened. Of Course, for some users, this kind of excuse should not be enough. Social media keeps making some sort of bad “marketing” since Elon Musk’s takeover. The social media lost multiple advertisers and some users have even left the boat. With that, there are some competitors like BlueSky trying to catch a slice of this cake.

Despite all the shortcomings, Elon Musk is trying its best to push social media and make it more profitable. The company recently introduced monetization as a new feature that can attract users that wish to make money through social media.
