All iPhone 15 Models Rumored to Have 48 MP Camera Sensors

iPhone 15 camera

Last year, we saw iPhone 14 series coming with different camera sensors. Vanilla iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus were equipped with 12 MP. The Pro and Pro Max came with 48 MP. This year, things could change. If the latest rumors are true, the whole iPhone 15 series will come with 48 MP sensors in their camera modules.

AppleInsider brings a report from the Chinese language ItHome. It came across the document in which Sony asks TSMC for more color filters for its camera sensors. According to the report, the amount of Sony’s 48 MP sensors needed is significantly higher than last year. So, the tipster assumes that the reason is the increased order of such components.

Gizchina News of the week

Since Apple purchases its camera sensors from Sony, this could mean that all iPhone 15 models may bring 48 MP sensors. It should be noted that this doesn’t necessarily mean that all iPhone 15 variants will have the same camera quality. There’s still much room for differences between basic and Pro models. For example, even if the iPhone 15 brings a 48 MP sensor, this doesn’t mean that it will have the same lenses as the Pro model.

Furthermore, it has already been reported that the flagship iPhone 15 Pro Max could utilize the periscope camera. This may lead to 5x or even 6x optical zoom.

Will the new iPhone 15 camera sensors make cheaper models more competitive?

I am pretty sure that Apple will take advantage of the fact that the even cheapest iPhone 15 brings a 48 MP camera. That is, everyone eager for a new iPhone with a limited budget will probably be delighted with the new camera. On the other hand, Apple may find a way to diversify its iPhone models enough to lure you to buy the more expensive one.

In other news, we’ve already seen that the new lineup won’t bring significant change in the design. The only notable ones could be narrower bezels on Pro models, with the addition of Dynamic Islands in vanilla ones. In hardware terms, the iPhone Pro models are likely to get a brand new A17 Bionic processor. The basic ones could be stuck on A16, though.

Since all this information is based on rumors, they should be taken with a grain of salt.
