The head of Huawei’s phone business just teased some amazing new products coming next year. They say these products could be game changers for the whole industry, even bigger than their latest 5G phone! At a recent fan event, Huawei’s phone boss, Richard Yu, hinted at exciting new products coming next year. He said they’ll be top-notch, groundbreaking, and “game-changers” for the whole industry.
He did not provide details about the type of products, as per the report. Huawei has not responded to a request for comment as of Sunday. During the event, Yu also mentioned that Huawei plans to launch native apps and products using its self-developed mobile platform, HarmonyOS, next year. This move aims to position the company as one of the leading operating system providers in China.
Huawei Mate 60 Re-fueled Chinese Interest in Huawei Products 
Yu made this assertion following the launch of the Mate 60 handset series, featuring the Chinese-manufactured advanced processor, Kirin 9000s. This release signifies Huawei’s re-entry into the 5G smartphone market, overcoming restrictions imposed by US trade sanctions that had restricted the company’s access to American technology. The Mate 60 series’ success has fueled a surge in patriotic pride among Chinese consumers. Just eight weeks after its late August launch, the series sold 2.4 million units, as reported by research firm Counterpoint.

By November 7, shipments of the Mate 60 series reached an estimated 2.5 million units, according to research firm Canalys. The premium Mate 60 Pro contributed to over 60 percent of the total volume. Huawei is working to increase the adoption of its homegrown HarmonyOS platform, encouraging more developers to join its mobile ecosystem. The upcoming HarmonyOS iteration will no longer support Android-based apps, aligning with the company’s strategy to counter the impact of US sanctions, as outlined by founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei earlier this year.
More Chinese Companies Ready to Develop Native Apps for Huawei’s HarmonyOS 
Alibaba’s fintech affiliate, Ant Group, is developing a version of its mobile payment app, Alipay, for HarmonyOS. Additionally, the China unit of McDonald’s has joined Huawei’s HarmonyOS platform, becoming one of the first multinational food companies in the country to do so.
Alibaba is working on a new version of its workplace collaboration app, DingTalk, to make it compatible with HarmonyOS. Huawei plans to release a developer preview of HarmonyOS Next in the first quarter of 2024.
