Latest Google Chrome Update Makes the Browser Offer Better Performance and Security

Google Chrome has received a brand-new update. It’s mainly focused on the security and performance aspects of the browser. To be exact, the latest version, which goes by M12, upgrades the Memory Saver and Safety Check of the web browser.

About the Upgraded Safety Check

At the core, Google Chrome’s Safety Check is a security hub. It checks for security updates and sees whether the saved passwords have been compromised. The hub also brings Safe Browsing, which safeguards your privacy while you browse online.

With the new update, Chrome’s Safety Check has become more proactive. It runs automatically in the background to ensure that you get the safest browsing experience. Product Manager Sabine Borsay says, “You’ll get proactively alerted if passwords saved in Chrome have been compromised, any of your extensions are potentially harmful.”

Moreover, the security hub of Google Chrome will now check whether you’ve updated the browser or not. It will also offer an alert when the site permissions require your attention. All the alerts that it gives will show up at the top right portion of the browser.

On the note of site permissions, Safety Check can now revoke them from accessing things like microphone, camera, or location. This revoking will happen if you haven’t visited the sites for a good while. You will also get an alert when a site that you rarely visit spams you with notifications. This alert will mainly suggest you turn the notifications off for the site.

Better Memory Saver Mode for Google Chrome

Google introduced Memory Saver mode back in 2022. But it has just recently rolled out to every Chrome user. As the name suggests, it helps to free up memory. More specifically, it frees up the memory from the tabs that you aren’t currently using. When you hover over one, you can also see how much memory the tab is currently consuming.

This information hints at how much memory you can save by making the tab inactive. Google Chrome is also making it easier to specify the sites that Memory Saver should always stay active. You can make adjustments and tweak the tool by getting to the Performance tab in the browser’s settings.

Saved Tab Groups on Chrome

The last thing that the update brings is saved tab groups. This feature will take care of the issue where you need to open all the last opened tabs after stepping back from work for a while. With this feature of Google Chrome, you can pick up where you left off with tabs.

Saved tab groups on Chrome also let you name the group of tabs. So, you don’t have to get confused after picking up from a break. But this feature mightn’t be available to all the users at the moment. Google says that it will be rolling out “over the next few weeks.”
