Vivo S30 Mini Pro: Tiny Phone, Monster Battery, Or Just Monster Hype?

The tech grapevine is active with chatter about Vivo potentially launching a more compact phone under its S-series banner in China. So far the device has no official name yet, however according to Weibo leaks, it could very well be dubbed the Vivo S30 Pro Mini. This sounds like it might be positioned as a more wallet-friendly little sibling to the Vivo X200 Pro Mini, which, if you recall, made its debut back in October 2024 over in China. So, what’s the scoop on this supposed S30 Pro Mini?

Diving into the Leaked Details: What to Expect (Maybe)

So, according to the ever-active tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) on Weibo, this alleged Vivo S30 Pro Mini will pack a 6.3 inch OLED display – a flat one, which many prefer – boasting a crisp 1.5K resolution. That’s a pretty generous screen for a “mini” device, I’d say.

But here’s where it gets really intriguing: the battery. DCS suggests it could house a power pack somewhere between 6,500mAh and a whopping 7,000mAh. Now, that’s a massive capacity, especially for a phone that’s presumably aiming for a compact form factor. If true, it would dwarf many competitors, like the OnePlus 13T’s reported 6,260mAh battery, by a noticeable margin. How they’d fit that in a “slim and lightweight build,” as mentioned, is something I’m genuinely curious about. The leaks also point towards robust 100W wired charging and, importantly, wireless charging capabilities.

Camera Credentials and a Dash of Celebrity Sparkle

On the camera front, things get a bit more specific. DCS has revealed that this device will likely come equipped with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto camera – same as the one iQOO Z9 packs. That’s quite a serious piece of kit for a potentially more affordable “mini” phone. There’s also a hint that this isn’t just for the Mini; the “entire lineup,” presumably the broader S30 series, might feature the same periscope telephoto lens previously seen on the Vivo X200s. And to sweeten the pot, these cameras could be paired with those Fuji-style image filters that seem to have gone down well with users.

Now, About the Standard S30 and Some Chipset Twists…

The original report mentions that “This indicates that the Vivo S30 will pack a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 periscope camera.” This seems to refer to the regular Vivo S30, not just the Pro Mini. Previous whispers, separate from the Mini’s details, say that this standard S30 model will have a slightly larger 6.67-inch OLED 1.5K screen and will pack the upcoming Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip. That would make sense for a non-Pro, non-Mini model.

However, then there’s a confusing mention: “As per a previous report, the Vivo X30 Pro Mini will feature the Dimensity 9400e chipset, a 50-megapixel selfie camera, and a 50-megapixel triple camera setup.” Notice the switch to “X30 Pro Mini” and a Dimensity 9400e. This is quite possibly a typo in the source, and it likely still refers to the S30 Pro Mini. If the S30 Pro Mini does get a Dimensity 9400e (a potentially powerful chip, perhaps a slightly tweaked version of a flagship Dimensity), that would make it a very potent “mini” indeed, and perhaps less of a “cheaper alternative” in terms of raw processing power than initially suggested if the standard S30 uses a Snapdragon 7-series. It’s all a bit up in the air, which is typical for pre-launch speculation.

So, it’s a developing story, as they say. A compact phone with a potentially huge battery and a periscope camera definitely sounds like an attention-grabber. We’ll just have to wait and see how these leaks pan out and what Vivo officially unveils, hopefully later this month.
