Meizu fans in China discovered a new phone from their favourite brand today, the new, more affordable Meizu MX5E.
Obviously named after the recently launched iPhone SE smartphone, the Meizu MX5E offers many of the features of the regular MX5 but with a new lower price of 1399 Yuan.
Compared to the regular Meizu MX5, the MX5E is 100 Yuan cheaper, and has a few downgrades to cut the pricing, one being the drop in processing speed from 2.2Ghz to 2.0Ghz and a reduction in mega-pixels for the rear camera to 16 mega-pixel (down from 21MP).
Unchanged is the 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 display, all metal body, 3GB RAM , 5 mega-pixel front camera, fingerprint scanner and 3150mAh battery.
It’s not clear if Meizu plan to launch this new version of the MX5 outside of China, but if they were too we’re not sure how much cheaper it would be (or if the saving would be worthwhile).
Earlier today the Meizu M3 Note pricing was revealed to be 1099 Yuan with features similar to the Meizu Metal. What are your thoughts on Meizu’s current range of phones?
Then how’s gonna ever look at the Meizu Metal?
what ?
lol sorry was a typo
Yea I don’t really understand this move at all. Seems like Meizu is taking an Elephone approach, throw as many pieces at the wall and see what sticks.
Will be surprised if they thought that MX5E is their answer to iPhone SE …. 5E and SE … That is absolutely crappy piggybacking. I hope I am very very wrong here.
I doubt it given the size and spec difference, most likely just a coincidence.
I think, that MAYBE, they are making all this random models in order to clear out old parts inventory…. Maybe not big number of each one of them… Just not to have old parts occupying the storage house…
I
That’s just my guess…. ;-D !!!!
That crap phone that runs yunos? I hope they kill off the metal line entirely.
this is a DUMB move from MEizu !
are they MAD ?!
MX5 is around $220 at re-sellers anyway..
Well yeah 16gb, but 16gb not enough really. I just got 32gb mx5 for $249 though
Are they planning to launch a device every 100 yuan?
They launched this just to prove that their Roadmap Leak was fake. Lol. 😛
Makes me belive phones on the roadmap leak was true. 😉

Very odd move…. Don’t understand this at all… I like meizu and think their phones over great value… But this release is strange to say the least

WTF? If that was released with a different size (bigger, smaller, very small), but no, it’s still 5.5in… I just don’t get it.

I agree that releasing a load of phones the same size is baffling but lets face it meizu’s primary focus is still the chinese market were 5.5 displays are the norm and may help with reducing screen parts inventory. Seems like a direct shot at xiaomi. So Meizu will have M3 and M3 note to compete with Redmi 3 and Redmi Note 3. Then MX5SE to compete with Redmi Note 3 pro / mi4s. Then MX5 can still compete with mi4c. Then MX6 will go up against MI5. Then Pro 6 will go up against Mi Note. Then they will release Pro 6 mini to compete with mini mi5 which it looks like will be announced soon. Then they maybe will not release another Metal.
