Mediatek and Google partnership will bring faster Android Builds to manufacturers

Mediatek

After a quieter year than expected seem that Mediatek may be preparing a comeback on 2018. Some recent rumors of Apple surrounding the Taiwanese Giant to possibly adopt their Modems in future iPhones, Now Google is also partnering with the Chipset manufacturer.

According to the manufacturer, Google allowed the company to offer pre-tested, pre-certified and fully compliant builds of Android OS and Google Services to the smartphone makers using Mediatek chipsets.

Gizchina News of the week

Mediatek seized the moment to announce its paper as first manufacturer to fully offer the GMS Express. For those unaware, the GMS Express was a program announced by Google made to offer device makers approved Android Software and the whole portfolio of Google Services.

The announcement will allow each manufacturer to reduce the time of software compatibility and adaptation to its handsets. It’s a three months process that will be diminished to one month, the company ensures. The company also ensures that consumers will receive the Google security patches in a monthly basis. Currently it’s hard to find a Mediatek powered device receiving the monthly android patches, no matter if the device is updated by its OEM in every month.

That is a smart move taken by both Mediatek and Google. Over the years was common to see Mediatek chipsets plagued by the lack of update on its software, this seems to be changing on a progressive manner. Resting in device makers the responsibility to keep their handsets updated.

Helio X30 seems a bit more on point performance wise with its graphics performance side of things, will they ever sort the battery performance on their chips?? The Snapdragon 625 is an amazing chip at the price point you find it in, look at the Redmi Note 4 Qualcomm edition performance, 10hrs on screen time is easy with medium use, yet it eats 99% of the high end games up no problem.

Adreno A512/A430 is a bare minimum when it comes to real high end games as Galaxy on Fire 3. While A512 (basically it’s a A510 with LPDDR 4 & on 14nm FinFET) is the only one for a good gaming experience (heat/battery endurance). The reason why their isn’t more real “high end games” is that 70% devices are below that.
MTK could make a twist now with using up to date Imagination Technology GPU’s which have much better drivers quality than Adrenos or MALI but that’s probably ain’t happening.
The real progress will become visible only when China’s semiconductor industry menages to brake free from US claws (which also won’t happen anytime soon).

I never said it’s Chinese… It’s also first one to fall when Chinese domestic SoC manufacturing eventually rises.

Taiwanese are Chinese.. China has hardly any major semiconductors manufacturers besides 1, the Kirin (Which is only exclusively for Huawei). It’s mostly coming out of Taiwan (even if the factory is in China..) Mediatek, TSMC, Foxxconn (Just the major few) and many more others that do chips for other devices like game consoles, computers and etc but smartphones. Saying that, we don’t know what the future holds and it could be a possibility but as of now, it’s not even close that China’s semiconductor industry will out run the Taiwanese. and do note that these Taiwanese companies (despite being from Taiwan and not a domestic brand) plays a major role in China’s economy still. So, China won’t simply kick these guys out just to push their homegrown semiconductors.

There are more tho in China but they are not one of the major. But Spectrum is one of the major SC manufacturer tho, I missed that one. Taiwan has many more too but hardly worth mentioning, really.
