Design and Specs: Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are now official and they bring to the table a myriad amount of features. They look almost identical to their predecessors, but a lot is different, mostly on the inside, whereas there are a few cosmetic changes outside. Let’s see what Samsung has in store.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Design

Measuring 147.7 x 68.7 x 8.5mm and weighing 163 grams, the Galaxy S9 is an amalgam of metal and glass, similar looking to its predecessor. What differs, is the much needed repositioning of the fingerprint scanner which now sits right below the rear camera. Also added is the iris scanner on the front of the S9. The Bixby button sits on the right whereas the volume and power buttons sit on the left of the S9.  It will be available in 3 colors, Lilac Purple, Midnight Black and Coral Blue and a Grey variant is supposed to be announced in the coming weeks and will be available in a single sim(nano), dual sim(nano+nano/nano+microSD) variants. Samsung has not skipped on the 3.5mm jack and it rests on the left side of the Type-C USB 3.1 charging port.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Specs

The display is a 5.8-inch QHD+ (2960 x 1440) curved Super AMOLED panel that has an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, similar, but not the same as the S8. The S9 will be available in two processor variants, 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and Samsung’s 64-bit octa-core processor Exynos 9810 depending upon the market. The S9 features 4GB of RAM and will be available in three memory variants, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, expandable up to a whopping 400GB. A 3000mAh battery will fuel the S9 with support for wired as well as wireless fast charging thanks to Quick Charge. The camera on the back is a 12MP SuperSpeed Dual Pixel snapper with a f/1.5 / f/2.4 variable aperture. On the front is an 8MP shooter with a f/1.7aperture. Stereo speakers by AKG along with surround sound thanks to Dolby Atmos are a bonus. It has Bluetooth 5.0, 4G LTE (Cat 18) and NFC.

Samsung Galaxy S9+ Design

Looking almost the same as its smaller sibling, the only major difference that the Galaxy S9+ has is on the back of the phone, the dual camera setup. It features the same array of physical buttons and sensors, albeit with a bigger display and dimensions that measure 158.1 x 73.8 x 8.5 mm and 189 grams. It does differ in the specs department by a few factors. Let’s find out!

Samsung Galaxy S9+ Specs

While a majority of the features including connectivity options, processor configuration, remain the same, the major difference is in the memory, camera and the battery department. The S9+ has a dual camera setup of 12MP snappers with f/1.7 and f/2.4 apertures. Note that none of the sensors have a variable aperture, but rely on the dual camera setup itself to provide the same effect. The front has an 8MP f/1.5 shooter. A beefier 3500mAh battery fuels the S9+ while 6GB of RAM powers it. Rest of the specs are same as the S9. The S9+ will be available in Midnight Black, Lilac Purple, Titanium Grey and Coral Blue variants.

Pricing and Availability

The S9 will be priced at $719.99 approximately for the unlocked version whereas the S9+ will be available for $839.99 and will be up for orders starting March 16.

I like the color purple. If Prince was still alive, gee I wonder what color he would have chose? Purple rain, purple motorcycle etc, etc!

No dual camera, 4 gb RAM and 3000 mAh is just funny for that high price.
Hope Mi7 will completely kill it.
