Elephone have gotten their hands on the latest Meizu MX5 and put it head to head with their own Elephone P8000, with both running Flyme 4.5. Let’s check out the video.
Elephone have taken Meizu’s latest Flyme OS, version 4.5 and ported it to their Elephone P8000, and filmed a video of their phone running side by side with the flagship Meizu MX5.
Design and specifications of these phones are rather different from one another. The MX5 for example has an alloy unibody design while the Elephone P8000 has a removable rear panel. Both phones have Mediatek processors, LTE and 5.5-inch displays, but the specs of the MX5 are in a slightly different league to the Elephone.

If you didn’t bother with the video above then the main points to take away from it are as follows.
- The AMOLED display of the Meizu MX5 looks rather nice in the video.
- Both The Elephone P8000 and MX5 run Flyme 4.5 very smoothly.
- The Meizu MX5 suffers the usual Meizu trait of getting overly hot (the Elephone P8000 is only slightly cooler).
- The MX5 is lighter than the Elephone, but the Elephone P8000 has a much larger 4150mAh battery.
In all honesty it is an odd comparison. Someone in the market for the Elephone P8000 wouldn’t likely also be interested in the Meizu MX5 flagship as pricing of the two phones are separated by a huge chasm.
On the other hand the P8000 does look to run Flyme pretty well, and with a finger print scanner, overall similar size and larger battery might be a good alternative to the Meizu for those on a budget.
The idea of running an alternate OS on more affordable hardware reminds me of a Hackintosh, is the Elephone P8000 a worthy Hackinzu?

Unfortunately though, I am not interested in the Elephone P8000 or any Elephone smartphone for that matter. I am looking at Oukitel and their huge battery phones, Asus Zenfone 2 (4GB/64GB) and also searching for which 5.7″ – 6.0″ phone with very good performance to buy.
Considering the Lenovo Vibe z2 Pro (Snapdragon 801) and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Exynos 5433 [64-bit]), but at the moment, leaning more towards the Note for better performance. Still haven’t made a choice and waiting to see if something better and relatively cheap comes out from China.
In the past I had a Lenovo Netbook running OSX, but just for fun 😀 I’m a slave to Mac I am sorry to say

Well i bought the z2 pro, it should be here this week. Ticks most of the boxes at a very good price.

I was seriously thinking of buying the z2 Pro before I started considering the Samsung Note 4 910S (Exynos 5433) mostly because of he 64bit A57 (1.9GHz)/A53 (1.3) dual quad core arrangement which is basically a slightly stripped down Snapdragon 810.
And considering that the Note 4 has a removable battery so I can pop in another one if the old one is getting weak.
Both the Note 4 and z2 pro has QHD displays, but my fear is whether the Adreno 330 in the z2 pro can handle good gaming at that resolution without stuttering.
As it is, the Mali 760 MP6 in the Note 4 already beats the Adreno 420 in the Snapdragon 805 and the Exynos also beats the SD805 processing power too.
I am considering more the processing and graphics power of the Note 4. Else I would’ve gone for the z2 pro.
We certainly do! Given up waiting for a suitable phone to be released and realised that a good phone already existed. 6″ QHD screen, good SoC, good audio quality, metal body, great GPS, 3GB RAM, 16mp camera with OIS, recent lollipop update and dropped in price by around 60%! I would rather the 801 which is known to be a good performer that doesn’t throttle than a slightly more powerful SoC that will throttle within a few mins. Only downside is it’s fugly, but ordered a nice hard case for the rear! Can’t wait for it to arrive.
The Exynos 5433 does not throttle at all. In a test I watched on youtube, it was even cooler than the Snapdragon 805 brother. I am looking for something that’ll be a little future proof. Yes the SD801 is quite good. But not as good as the Exynos. Plus the Exynos share the same GPU with the Galaxy S6/Edge which makes the GPU really good.
Another reason why I am considering the Samsung is the S-Pen. That will help me a lot. Unfortunately there is no Chinese that offers that kinda facility.
All in all, SD801/Adreno 330 is quite good, but with a QHD display, I dont know about future proofing. I dont wanna search for a new phone in the coming one year.
I understand completely what your saying but for me I don’t want to be paying $700-800 for a phone when i can get one with 90% of the performance for $300. I also noticed here in the UK at least that 2nd hand ones are selling for more than a new one from China on ebay. So if I get bored with it in 6 months or a better one comes along I will sell it and get most of my money back, so no risk for me. Im certain that I will want the Xplay 5s when its eventually released!!!lol
I am not paying $700-$800 for the Note 4. Actually, I am spending $400+ for a refurbished one. And the SD801 does not have 90% of the performance of the Exynos when both are loaded with QHD displays as is the case between z2 pro and Note 4 (Exynos version). Thats applicable when the SD801 has FHD and the Exynos has a QHD.
If both has QHD, its between 70% and 80% of the Exynos’ performance that you get in SD801.
Mind you that the Adreno 420 is a lot more powerful than the Adreno 320 and the Mali T760 MP6 is neck to neck with the Adreno 420 and beating it in some cases even.
So the Adreno 330 cannot be compared with the Mali T760 MP6min QHD performance
the Note 4 is a nice piece of hardware.

Yes the Note 4 is certainly a sweet phone. I watched a review of the Note Edge and that one even blows me out more than the Note 4. But a lot pricier.

Well, I saw a refurbished Note Edge at ALiExpress for $689. I think thats well worth it considering the amount the Note Edge is going for a new one. Though I dont think I can cough out that kinda money when I can purchase a refurbished Note 4 for less than $400 for the Snapdragon 805 version.
I really want the Exynos 5433 version as that one is better with battery life and also slightly faster with CPU computational tasks (not like I am gonna do some kinda aerospace calculations with my phone … lol), but in all, the octa-core Eynos is better than the quad SD805 and the GPU are almost same performance.
Not able to get the exynos version for less than $400 yet but will keep searching 🙂

anyhow , Meizu i believe beats any elephone by a huge margin. ofcourse , you can search for other phones within the same price range for the sake of being economical but meizu are known for their high build quality , awesome cameras and fluid software optimizations.

well , flyme does run better than other custom roms …
It depends on the model. For instance on the MX models Flyme runs flawlessly. On the M note there were a lot of issues with Flyme.
Did you own a Meizu? I’m asking because you said the Software is well optimized. If you own an actual Meizu with actual Flyme Version you won’t say that. In fact I had MX2, now MX3 and MX4. Flyme 2 and 3 was not perfect but performed well. With Flyme 4 and 4.5 we have only trouble. Overheating, sync Problems, unstable Wifi, huge Battery drain, really slow rom with much lags, freezing phone, not responding home button, mega slow camera and on the MX3 standard Camera App is unable to focus 3 of 4 times, so taking Pictures is impossible. Meizu was a really great company, offering high quality Phones. But since one year they have massive problems with software that didn’t work as it should. I would never buy a Meizu again, because the reason for a Meizu in the past was the great Hardware compared with really good software. You can forget this now, the are not able to fix. It’s such a shame for Meizu. This truth needs much more attention because you have to pay much more for a Meizu device then other Phones. This incredibly great Hardware is useless without working software. So what I must say is stay away from meizu. They were so great and yet they are nothing. Bugs reported 9-12 months ago were not fixed until now.
well sir i read the reviews on several sites quite thoroughly and they gave the general impression that the software WAS better then in similar priced flagships and devices. I guess i was at fault in translating that impression into a positive one.

I have a huge problem with these chinese phones… You cannot find anywhere the result of the DAS emission test, for the very simple reason that they have not been tested.
Of course some website give you a DAS emission number, but it is likely not to be trusted.
I am less and less interested in these brands which do not provide regular software updates, sell phones with missing LTE bands for most of the countries in Europe and probably do not care about delivering a product that respect our health 🙁
Cause this elephone P8000 is of course very attractive for its price (same for the Oukitel U10, for example) and the Meizu MX5 seems to be a high quality product, but without more information about DAS emission, I think a will go for a less “exotic brand” when I will have to buy a new phone.

Especially with chinese smartphone, how many time we saw chinese brand giving wrong information (about specs especially). When it comes to sell a product, being honest does not seem to be a priority… As China allow you to sell a phone without controlling its DAS emission level, I seriously doubt that the brand really do the test on their own. So sure, they would probably give me a value, but it is probably coming directly from their imagination.
I would rather have the value measured by an independant institute. It would be slightly more trustworthy.

With regards to LTE bands most of these phones are never intended to be sold in Europe and any sales there are meant to be in the major cities which usually have the bands supported. Sales outside of those just don’t equate to enough for them to justify adding the extra antennae to pick up Band 20, which is the one most often left out. The costs go beyond just the Antennae as the FCC (in the US) and EUC have various licenses and fees to operate on their networks.
