WeChat iOS newest Official Version Released With New Features

WeChat keeps expanding one of its biggest updates in years. A built-in AI assistant called Xiaowei is now spreading through staged testing on iOS. But before that, some reports mention build 8.0.78, but I couldn't confirm that number. The most recent confirmed releases are versions 8.0.75 and 8.0.76. Even tho my source states 8.0.78. So i really dont know what to write here? Ill just call it "The new version" to not spread any misinformation or something.

Xiaowei isn't a separate app bolted onto WeChat. It's built directly into the platform's core. It runs on WeChat's own WeLM language model, with DeepSeek added on top. Once your account gets it, a small icon appears in the top-left corner of your home screen. You can talk to it by text or by voice.

Xiaowei handles everyday tasks people already do constantly inside WeChat. It can draft and send messages, handle payments, and set reminders. It can also summarize long documents or catch you up on busy group chats. It can even build a simple working mini-program just from a plain description.

Xiaowei can't do everything yet. It can't post to Moments, publish video content, or schedule delayed messages. It also can't send voice messages or blast a message to multiple people at once. For now, it sticks to core one-on-one tasks instead of full automation.

The latest confirmed update also brings new AI tools to Moments. It can help you comment on posts or draft your own. It also adds AI photo editing right inside your chats. Some users are testing a private posting mode for Moments too. A new zoom button has also shown up in WeChat's built-in camera.

The feature is being tested across iOS in stages. But, there is still some confusion around which version introduced it.
