GMKtec is taking local AI computing to another level with the
GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro, a new desktop system unveiled at
IFA 2026 in Berlin. The company says its latest machine can run large language models with up to 300 billion parameters locally, without relying on cloud computing.
The EVO-X5 Pro is built around AMD’s latest Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor and can be configured with up to 192GB of unified LPDDR5X memory. GMKtec is positioning the machine as an example of the emerging “Agentic PC” category, where computers are expected to do more than run AI applications and instead understand tasks, reason through information, and assist with increasingly autonomous workflows.
300B-Parameter AI Without The Cloud
The headline feature is undoubtedly the GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro's ability to handle extremely large AI models locally.
The Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 combines 16 Zen 5 CPU cores and 32 threads, with boost speeds reaching 5.2GHz. It also includes AMD Radeon 8065S integrated graphics with 40 compute units, hardware ray tracing, and an integrated AMD XDNA 2 NPU capable of up to 55 TOPS.
GMKtec offers up to 192GB of unified LPDDR5X-8533 memory, with as much as 160GB configurable as dedicated VRAM. With around 273GB/s of memory bandwidth, the system is designed to keep large AI models in memory for local inference.
That makes the EVO-X5 Pro particularly interesting for users who want to experiment with large language models without constantly sending data to remote servers.
GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro: Built With Privacy In Mind
Running AI locally also has an important advantage: data can stay on the machine.
GMKtec is targeting the EVO-X5 Pro for environments where sensitive information makes cloud-based AI less attractive. The company specifically mentions government, healthcare, financial services, legal and compliance teams, research laboratories, and enterprise workloads as potential use cases.
The system also includes AMD DASH remote management, a dedicated RJ45 DASH network adapter, and a dTPM 2.0 security chip. GMKtec says the machine supports out-of-band management and has been validated for continuous 24/7 operation.
A Small Desktop With Plenty Of Expansion
Despite its compact form factor, the EVO-X5 Pro isn't being positioned as a basic mini PC.
The system features dual front USB4 ports and two rear full-featured USB4 V2 ports, along with eGPU support, 8K video output, and multi-system connectivity for distributed computing setups.
Cooling is handled by a vapor chamber and a triple-fan system, while users can choose from three performance modes based on their workload.

The idea behind the Agentic PC is that future computers won't simply wait for users to open an application and give it instructions. Instead, they could understand goals, process information, reason through problems, and eventually perform tasks with greater independence.
With up to 192GB of unified memory and support for local models reaching 300 billion parameters, the EVO-X5 Pro is certainly an ambitious attempt to bring that concept to desktop hardware.
