Last week, Google made a huge move. They launched a feature that lets Pixel 10 users share files with Apple devices using AirDrop. This works through Google’s own Quick Share feature. Google said they checked the new feature carefully. They wanted to make sure it was secure. But the company missed a big problem.

Opening Quick Share Kills Wi-Fi

The new Quick Share update that adds AirDrop support is breaking Wi-Fi. It is happening on the Pixel 10 series of phones.
Users are complaining across Google forums and Reddit. Simply opening the file sharing menu on a Pixel 10 does this:
  • It makes the phone drop its Wi-Fi connection.
  • The list of nearby Wi-Fi networks becomes empty.
  • Turning Wi-Fi off and on does not fix the issue while the menu is open.
The problem stops only when you close the Quick Share menu. Then, the Wi-Fi quickly reconnects. The issue hits the Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, and 10 Pro Fold.

Why This Is Happening

Quick Share and AirDrop work by using both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct. Bluetooth helps find nearby devices. Wi-Fi Direct is used for the high-speed transfer.
Experts think the phone’s Wi-Fi radio is the problem. It seems to struggle to run a regular network connection and start a peer-to-peer connection for sharing at the same time. The phone might be tearing down the regular Wi-Fi connection when you open the share menu. This is a common concurrency issue in Wi-Fi management.

Google’s Confusing Bug Reports

Google is likely aware of this issue. Users have reported it on both the Google Issue Tracker and the support forums.
However, the reporting process has been confusing. Google engineers told users to post in the forums. Forum experts then told users to go back to the Issue Tracker. This messy back-and-forth shows that Google’s own bug reporting system is adding to the frustration.
For now, the only way to stop the Wi-Fi drops is to uninstall the Quick Share extension update. But if you do that, you lose the ability to share files with iPhones.
This bug is not dangerous, but it is very annoying. Google needs to fix this fast. A simple app-level tweak or system update should be able to solve this Wi-Fi mix-up.
The AirDrop-compatible Quick Share is a huge win for Android users. But this Wi-Fi bug is a rough start. Google must fix the concurrency issue quickly before users turn off the feature entirely.
