Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro Just Hit 4.83 Million on AnTuTu - or not?

Qualcomm's next flagship chip may be even faster than we expected - and this news today proves it. The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro has appeared in an early AnTuTu test with a score of more than 4.83 million points. That would put it ahead of today's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 phones, but there is a good reason to be careful with this one.

The screenshot comes from well-known tipster Digital Chat Station and shows a device with Qualcomm's SM8975 chip. Previous leaks have linked that model number to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, which is expected to be Qualcomm's top 2nm chip for the next wave of Android flagships.

The device scored 4,835,412 points in AnTuTu V11.1.4, with 1,368,930 points coming from the CPU. The GPU reached an even higher 1,854,826 points and is listed as the new Adreno 850.

For some context, recent phones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 have already passed 4.5 million points in AnTuTu. That puts this leaked result about 6% higher, which isn't a huge jump on paper. Still, we're looking at an early test here, so the final chip could perform better once it arrives in retail phones.

Here's the thing, though. AnTuTu reportedly cannot find this result in its own database. That doesn't prove the screenshot is fake, but it does mean I wouldn't take the 4.83 million score as fact just yet. Early benchmark leaks can also use special settings that we may never see on a phone you can actually buy.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series is expected to be one of Qualcomm's biggest upgrades in years, mainly because of the move to a 2nm process. The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 has been linked to the SM8950 model number, while the more powerful Pro version is said to use SM8975.

And we may not have to wait long to see it in a real phone. The upcoming Xiaomi 18 series is tipped to be among the first to use the new chip. Honor is also expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 in some Magic 9 models, while the iQOO 16 and OnePlus 16 have been linked to Qualcomm's new platform as well.

To be honest, the 4.83 million score isn't the part that interests me most. We already know that every new flagship chip will be faster than the one before it. What matters with a 2nm chip is whether Qualcomm can offer that extra speed without making phones hotter or killing battery life.

If the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro can do that while pushing close to five million points in AnTuTu, then we may have something far more interesting than another benchmark record.
