HONOR Magic V5 Lifts 104kg to Prove Its Durability and Breaks Guinness Record

HONOR’s new foldable phone, the Honor Magic V5, has just made history by landing in the Guinness World Records. The phone managed to lift an incredible 104 kilograms while hanging by its hinge, proving it’s one of the toughest foldable devices ever made.

The record was set on August 1, 2025, in Dubai, where Guinness World Records official Emma Brain confirmed the achievement. “The heaviest weight lifted by a suspended foldable smartphone is 104 kilograms (229 pounds), and was achieved by HONOR International FZCO,” she announced.

For HONOR, this wasn’t just about setting a record. The company has been focusing heavily on making foldable phones that don’t just look sleek but also last. Ingmar Wang, President of HONOR Middle East and Africa, said durability was one of the top goals when developing the Honor Magic V5. “We wanted to make sure the Magic V5 is not only slimmer and smarter, but also stronger and more reliable,” he explained.

The phone’s strength comes from its Super Steel Hinge, a new design that uses a special high-grade steel. This hinge can handle up to 500,000 folds and has a tensile strength of 2300MPa (megapascal), making it far stronger than earlier versions. Despite all this, the hinge is compact and lightweight, so it doesn’t add bulk to the phone.

This balance of strength and slimness is a big step forward for foldables, which in the past were often criticized for being fragile or too bulky.

Foldable phones are still fairly new, and many people hesitate to buy them because of concerns about durability. With this record, HONOR is trying to change that perception. The Honor Magic V5 is just 8.8mm thick when folded and weighs 217 grams, so it’s light and easy to carry, while also showing it can handle serious stress.

This achievement doesn’t just give HONOR bragging rights. It shows that foldable phones can be both stylish and durable, setting a new standard for the industry moving forward.
