For years, smartphone makers have been exploring the technologies available to improve the quality of zoom in smartphones' cameras. With the use of a periscope telephoto lens, we've seen great achievements in the past. However, none of the available technologies is yet comparable to actual physics extenders when it comes to zoom. In a bid to offer a more professional experience to its consumers, Oppo and Vivo basically dived into this trend with telephoto extender lenses for the Oppo Find X9 Pro and the Vivo X300 Pro, respectively. Now, it seems that Honor will join this trend pretty soon with the Honor Magic8 RSR Porsche Design.

Honor Magic8 RSR Porsche Design To Offer Advanced Telephoto Extender

With Oppo, Vivo, and now Honor diving into this trend, it's just a matter of time until this becomes a mainstream thing among users. It's an interesting approach, since it delivers a powerful experience while the technology inside the phones doesn't make the needed advancements to rival the physical extender. Honor announced the big news today, confirming that the Honor Magic8 RSR Porsche Design wil support an add-on telephoto extender lens, which will be a part of the camera kit.

The New Telephoto Extender Trend and Honor's Approach:

  • Oppo and Vivo already adopted this approach with the Find X9 Pro and Vivo X300 Pro
  • Honor is joining the trend with the Honor Magic8 RSR Porsche Design
  • Honor confirmed the phone will support an add-on telephoto extender lens as part of an official camera kit
  • The telephoto extender offers a native 2.35× optical zoom, enhancing long-range photography beyond the phone’s built-in zoom
  • Honor shared real sample images to showcase the extender’s performance
  • This solution aims to deliver a more professional photography experience while mobile camera tech still lags behind physical optics
  • The Honor Magic8 RSR Porsche Design launches on January 19 in China, alongside the Magic8 Pro Air
The image shared by Honor, which is attached below, shows the telephoto extender. It will offer a native zoom of 2.35x. If the smartphone's zoom isn't enough for you, the telephoto extender will improve the experience further. Honor is confident in the new add-on and shared a couple of images that show the telephoto extender in action.
The Honor Magic8 RSR Porsche Design will make its debut on January 19 in China alongside the new Honor Magic8 Pro Air. This is just two days away, so the wait is almost over for those who want to meet the latest flagship, co-designed by Porsche.
