Chinese company
Xiaomi has just changed the game in the mid-range phone
segment with the
launch of the
REDMI Turbo 5 Standard Edition. This phone
is proof that you do not have to break the bank to have a premium experience. The base model is priced at 1,999 yuan (about $288), but with
a subsidy, it comes in at a cheap rate of 1,699.15 yuan (about
$245).
A New Look and Feel
While affordable smartphones may look like plastic toys, this has now
been addressed in the Turbo 5. The design has been revamped. The plastic has
been removed and replaced with a solid metal and glass design. The design team
has added rounded “R” corners to achieve a perfectly balanced feel. Regardless
of the colour you choose, be it Shadow Black, Light Sea Cyan, or Lucky Cloud
White, this phone looks like a luxury flagship. It comes with a 6.59″ mid-size screen.
The
REDMI Turbo 5 features the same Super Sunlight Screen as
the Max, using M10 luminescent material with a peak brightness of 3500 nits and
supporting Xiaomi's Green Mountain Eye Protection feature. Other features
include IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K water resistance, kilometer-level wireless
connectivity, Apple device connectivity, file transfer, and notification
sharing.
Speed Meets Stability
The phone runs on the Dimensity 8500 Ultra, which delivers smooth
scrolling and solid gaming performance. It stays cool thanks to the new Cold
Pump cooling system. With this cooling system, the Rampage Engine keeps the
software and hardware working together for a smooth overall experience.
It supports LPDDR5 Ultra + UFS4.1, and adopts the same 3D ice-sealed
circulating cold pump cooling system as flagship models. This device also
features the latest "Rampage Engine," claiming "integrated
CPU/GPU/DDR frequency tuning."
Huge Battery in a Small
Body
The battery is perhaps one of the best aspects of the phone. The Chinese
company just changed the game in the mid-range phone segment with the
launch of the
REDMI Turbo 5 Standard Edition.
In terms of battery life, the phone features a
built-in 7560mAh battery, and supports 100W wired fast charging plus 27W wired
reverse charging, while also being compatible with the 100W PPS fast charging
protocol.
Built for Real
Life
Another aspect that Xiaomi worked on with the Turbo 5 is that it is
tough. The company claims that this device is water resistant but please do not
immerse it in water. The exact rating is yet to be verified. However, Xiaomi
says it has no issues with heavy rain and can even stand a few minutes
inside a pool.
