Since August we have been hearing
rumours about MediaTek’s
new quad-core CPU the MT6588 and how we could see low-cost
quad-core phones very soon. Well more
rumours have emerged that
Lenovo and
Gionee will launch
quad-core phones in October!
According to Chinese media the
new quad-core MT6588
CPU from MediaTek will boats huge performance gains over the current dual-core MT6577, yet
cost less! This is great
news for us as we can expect some amazingly powerful, and cheap,
Chinese phones coming soon.
How soon? Well October is looking likely as both Lenovo and Gionee are thought to be working on MT6588 quad-core phones which will surface next month.
According to sources,
Lenovo are working on project Arkansas, a
quad-core MT6588
phone running at 1.2Ghz and equipped with 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM, a 4.5 inch 960 x 540 resolution screen with
1080 support and
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Gionee insiders have also confirmed that they too are working on a low-cost quad-core phone capable of 1080 playback which will also see light of day next month!
