Oppo is continuing its move overseas, as it attempts to expand its reach throughout
Southeast Asia.
Invites to a special
Oppo hosted
event set to take place February 18th have been sent to select groups of the media and they are expected to unveil the
Oppo N1 there.
Oppo has
already made moves to expand in Thailand,
Vietnam and Indonesia, and
Malaysia looks to be their next target. According to GSMinsider, Chen Mingyong the
ceo of Oppo is also
expected to attend the
event.
This marks the fourth major Chinese manufacturer to enter the Malaysian
market, Huawei, Lenovo and
ZTE have all been selling phones there.
Malaysia seems ripe for expansion in the mobile
market and the big players from China are looking to take advantage of that. While consumers in
Malaysia are one of the most tech savvy populations in emerging Asian markets, studies have also shown that they don't rely on brand names when picking their next smartphone.
That makes the
market there wide open for practically anyone.
Oppo's success or failure there will likely have a lot to do with the price of the
OPPO N1 if and when it is
launched there. Oppo is keeping mum on that but we are sure to find out more this Tuesday at the
event.
