Chinese Smartphone Market Shipments Declined By 18.2% In November

Today, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) released the Chinese smartphone market operation analysis report for November 2018. Compared with the same period of last year, the overall domestic smartphone market and the number of new models listed have shown a downward trend.

In November of this year, the overall shipment volume of the Chinese smartphone market was 35.37 million units, a slight decrease from the previous month, down 18.2% year-on-year. In the first 11 months of 2018, the total cumulative shipments of the Chinese smartphones reached 379 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 15.6%.

In addition, there are fewer smartphones launched this month. Only 39 new models were announced by the manufacturers, down 49.4% from the same period last year. They also include six 2G phones. However, in the first half of this year, a total of 722 new machines were released in the Chinese market. It was lower compared with the same period last year. A small part of the new models is 2G handsets.

What’s interesting, the China-based smartphone brands accounted for 86.4% of the overall shipments. Their shipments reached 30.553 million units. But it also declined compared with the same period last year. In the first 11 months of this year, domestic brand smartphone shipments reached 339 million units, which is also declining and accounting for 89.4% of the Chinese smartphone market.
