Nothing had a slow start in the smartphone business, but the company seems to be firming its steps in this hectic market. Today, Nothing is giving one important step to become a mainstream brand - it is launching its very first entry-level smartphone. The Nothing Phone (3a) Lite launched today, as expected, and is the cheapest smartphone with the Nothing brand.
Nothing had its own parcel of low-end smartphones under the CMF branding, but this was a sub-brand. Now, Nothing Phone (3a) Lite brings the brand's own name and visual identity. With this device, the London-based brand founded by OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, is taking an important step to popullarize its name. While flagships are fancy and cool, just a small part of users have access to them. The low-end phones, on the other hand, are accessible to a wider audience. This is Nothing's chance to conquer the masses.

Interestingly, the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite is quite similar to the CMF Phone 2 Pro. But this isn't a simple rebranding as the (3a) Lite misses the dedicated telephoto camera. The new device also gets Nothing's signature transparent glass back, and it features a single Glyph light that alerts for notifications.

Nothing Phone (3a) Specifications and Features

The Nothing Phone (3a) Lite comes with a 6.77-inch AMOLED screen with 120Hz Refresh Rate and Full HD+ resolution. The phone has 800 nits of typical brightness and 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The panel is covered with Panda Glass and integrates an optical fingerprint scanner and a 16 MP selfie shooter. Under the hood, we have an interesting surprise. Instead of a Qualcomm chip, as usual in Nothing phones, this one favors MediaTek's Dimensity 7300 Pro. It comes with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of Internal Storage. Surprisingly, it can be further expanded with a micro SD card slot. The expansion has been left behind by brands in this category, and Nothing adds it back in its mid-range phone.

Moving around to the back, the (3a) Lite has a 50 MP main camera with OIS. It is paired with an 8 MP ultrawide shooter and a 2 MP macro camera. One downside is that this phone ships with Android 15 instead of Android 16. Anyway, Nothing promises 3 major Android updates and 6 years of security updates. This means the phone will get Android 16, 17 and 18 and will receive security patches until 2031.

In the age of super batteries, the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite takes a conservative approach. This device has a 5,000 mAh battery with 33W fast-charging. The device sells in Black and White color options. It starts at $249/€249/£249 for the 8/128GB trim and goes up to $279/€279/£279 for the 8/256GB version. Open sales start today.
