OPPO Officially Announces ColorOS 17 Launch for Next Month

OPPO has confirmed its next big software update, ColorOS 17, is coming in September with the new Find X10 phones. But the story around this update has actually changed since OPPO first talked about it.

Back in June, OPPO's design lead said this update wouldn't bring any big visual changes. He specifically said OPPO wouldn't copy the glassy, see-through look other phone makers were chasing after Apple's big iOS redesign. At the time, OPPO made it sound like ColorOS 17 was mostly about fixing bugs and making things run smoother. But newer details suggest something different entirely. Turns out a real visual makeover is happening after all, just under a different name.

OPPO's new look is called "liquid acrylic." Think glowing edges, soft blur effects, gentle lighting animations, and smooth rounded corners everywhere you look. The goal is to make everything feel cleaner and easier to see at a glance. The twist is that OPPO's version is a bit more toned down than Apple's, and that actually works in your favor.

Why? Well it should be lighter on your battery and easier to read this way.

This update is doing double duty, too. It's replacing OxygenOS and Realme UI entirely, meaning OnePlus and Realme phones will now run the exact same software as OPPO phones instead of their own versions.

OPPO's also expected to roll out a much smarter voice assistant called Xiaobu Next, though details on that are still pretty light for now. So we will have to wait until some more information is out.
