It's no secret that
Xiaomi's
CEO,
Lei Jun, has his eyes set on entering both the Taiwanese and
Hong Kong markets, but we didn't realise just how close the
launch of the
Xiaomi M2 in
Hong Kong could be!
The
Xiaomi M2 continues to be one of the most difficult phones to lay your hands on, despite launching months ago and having completed a number of (lottery style) pre-sales! The problem of supply and
demand has become a sore point with
Xiaomi fans and the
forums are full of angry would-be customers wanting to get their phones.
Strangely though,
Xiaomi don't seem to be especially interested in releasing the issue and launching the
M2 for general
launch, but are instead looking to spread supply even thinner by heading to
Hong Kong. Well that is what this latest Tweet suggests.
The tweet, posted on
Xiaomi's official Twitter account reads:
“Xiaomi is going to launch a new market in [blank] on [blank].”
You don't have to be the next
Sherlock Holmes to figure out at lease of those blanks is
Hong Kong (
could the second blank be 21st December?), as the image features a silhouette of Hong Kong, the Bauhinia flower and traditional Chinese characters which are used in
Hong Kong (and Taiwan).
While it is great to see
Xiaomi expanding, we really hope that they
first satisfy
demand at home before venturing to pastures
new.
