Qualcomm has recently launched its long-awaited flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, at the Snapdragon summit in Maui, Hawaii. Together with this chip, Qualcomm also announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. This chip is here to offer users more options without compromising on flagship-level performance. The company is trying to diversify its chips for a wide range of manufacturers to be able to produce top-quality devices that could have affordable prices yet have a premium level of performance.

Key Details of Snapdragon 8 Gen 5

Qualcomm didn’t reveal everything about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, but it shared some key details. Like the Elite version, this chip is built on a 3nm process and uses a custom Oryon CPU. The prime core runs at up to 3.8GHz, while the performance cores, on the other hand, can reach 3.32GHz.
From Qualcomm’s wording, it looks like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 uses an octa-core setup in a 1+7 configuration. That means one prime core and seven performance cores. In comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 comes with two prime cores running up to 4.6GHz and six performance cores going up to 3.62GHz. This gives the 8 Elite Gen 5 an edge over its compatriot. However, it doesn't make the performance cores less of a flagship chip.

Qualcomm also confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 comes with a next-generation Adreno GPU, a powerful NPU, and an advanced AI-ISP camera system. However, that’s all the company revealed for now. More details about this chip are expected later in the year.
These may be the main highlights of the latest chips from Qualcomm, but there are more details for those who really want to know more. For more information, please read the full announcement coverage at this link.
