The mid-range phone market is usually pretty boring. Most brands just give us thicker phone bodies or ugly camera bumps. But the Camon Slim from TECNO is different. It tries something very bold and I think it succeeds. At just 6.39mm thin, it is one of the slimmest phones you can buy today in this jungle-market. The coolest part is that Tecno did not cut corners to make it this thin. They still packed a large battery and strong water protection into the frame. It looks like a high-end fashion item, but it is built to survive real daily life.
Some people worry that a super thin phone will bend or break easily. Others worry that the battery will die in a few hours. My guess is that Tecno wants to prove those worries wrong. Thus being said, they offer tough military-grade build quality alongside great battery life. In this review, we will look at what makes this phone REALLY good, and (also) where it falls short (because it kind-of does).

Summary

  • Crazy Thin Design: It is just 6.39mm thick and feels like a feather, but it still has top-tier IP68 and IP69 water protection.
  • Super Smooth Screen: The 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display uses a fast 144Hz refresh rate that looks great in the sun.
  • Fun Notification Lights: The back camera area has 354 tiny LED lights that flash in 55 ways for calls and texts.
  • Big Battery Battery: It holds a 5,600mAh battery that easily lasts a day and a half and charges fast at 60W.
  • Basic Gaming Power: The MediaTek Helio G200 chip is great for daily tasks, but it struggles with heavy 3D games.

Design and Build Quality

The design is the first thing you will notice when you pick up this slim beauty. Yes, at 6.39mm, it feels amazing in your hand. It is much lighter and sleeker than the bulky phones we are used to - especially those chunky foldables out there. Tecno used a nice curved glass style where the front and back meet the sides perfectly. You can get it in cool colors like Mondrian New, Prism Black, Jungle Green, Van Gogh Blue, and Burgundy Red. As you can see, I got the Van Gogh Blue and it really stands out on a desk!
You might think a thin phone like this is weak, but it is actually built like a (light) tank. It passed tough military tests for drops and pressure. You do not have to worry about it bending in your jeans pocket.

The water protection is even better. According to the manufacturer, it has both IP68 and IP69 ratings. Most phones can only handle a quick drop in a sink but this can survive hot water sprays and high pressure. One of its main features is placed on the back and it's called AI Mood Light. It uses 354 tiny LEDs inside the camera patch. They blink in different ways when people call you. This lets you see alerts even when the phone faces down.

A Bright and Fast 144Hz Screen

Turn the phone over to see the huge 6.78-inch screen that uses a sharp 1.5K AMOLED panel, making videos look beautiful. Colors are bright, blacks are dark, and it uses special dimming to protect your eyes at night.
In case you were wandering, yes, you can read your texts outside under bright sunlight without any issues. The best part is the 144Hz refresh rate however, as it makes moving through apps feel incredibly smooth and fast.

Tecno also added a feature called Rain Touch. Have you ever tried to use your phone in the rain? Usually, water drops make the screen go crazy. This phone can tell the difference between your finger and a water drop. That means you can text in a downpour without any annoying ghost touches. It's summer here in Greece so I didn't get the chance to try it in the rain - perhaps I will do it when I get the chance.

Daily Performance and Software

Inside the slim body, you get a MediaTek Helio G200 processor and 8GB of RAM. The software can use free storage to boost that memory up to 24GB. For normal tasks like social media, emails, and video streams, the phone flies. Everything feels smooth and quick with no significant hiccups.
However, hard-core mobile gamers might want a bit more power. The Helio G200 chip likes to save battery rather than push heavy graphics. Casual games run perfectly fine. But if you play heavy 3D titles, you will need to lower the settings to keep the game smooth.
The good news is the phone never gets hot. It uses a large stainless steel vapor chamber and 12 layers of cooling sheets. This setup keeps the phone cool during long text or video sessions. For software, it runs HiOS on top of Android 16. The look is clean, and Tecno promises the phone will stay fast for five years.

Sony Camera Performance

For photos, the Camon Slim uses a 50MP Sony LYT-600 main camera. According to the official website, It has a wide aperture and electronic stabilization to help keep your shots steady. In the daytime, it takes sharp, clear photos with natural colors. It does not boost the colors too much like other cheap phones do and this is good in my eyes.

Night photography works - let's say OK- too. The camera combines pixels to grab more light in dark rooms. Because the phone has great water protection, it even has an underwater camera mode. You can take it into a pool to snap pictures safely but I didn't want to test it - yet.
On the front, you get a 32MP selfie camera. It has a wide view angle, which makes it easy to fit all your friends into a group photo without a selfie stick.

Battery Life and Quick Charging

Fitting a 5,600mAh battery into a 6.39mm frame is a massive win for engineering. Tecno used a special high-density design to keep the size small while holding a lot of energy. The battery easily lasts a day and a half of regular use. You won't have to stress about finding a wall plug before the day ends.
When the battery does empty, the 60W fast charger gets you back to full in about an hour. The battery is also built to last for a long time. Tecno says the cell will stay healthy for five years of daily charging before it starts to wear down.

The Final Verdict

The Camon Slim is an exciting change for mid-range phones. It proves that a ultra thin phone can still be tough and have a great battery. It gives you a beautiful 144Hz screen, solid water protection, and a unique look.
The only real downside is gaming power. Heavy gamers might find the Helio G200 processor a bit weak. But if you want a phone that looks amazing, fits easily in your pocket, lasts all day, and survives water drops, the Camon Slim by TECNO, is a great choice.
