Xiaomi is working on a new intelligent question-and-answer assistant. It is simply named
Mi Chat. This news comes from a
recent post on the WeChat public account "Du Jia." The leak is very specific. It suggests that the first version of the Mi Chat product has already been finished. Done.
This application is for everyone. It will show how good Xiaomi is getting at artificial intelligence. It is expected to run on the company’s own large language model. That model is called MiMo-7B-RL. Xiaomi launched MiMo-7B-RL earlier this year. It is a big part of their AI strategy.
Small Model, Big Power
Here is something surprising: the
MiMo model only has 7 billion parameters. That is small compared to some rivals. But MiMo-7B-RL previously beat bigger competitors. It actually surpassed models like OpenAI’s o1-mini and Alibaba’s Qwen QwQ-32B-Preview in important tests. This includes benchmarks like AIME 24/25 and LiveCodeBench v5. This shows the model is very good at reasoning and code tasks.
Xiaomi plans to make the model even bigger later. Mi Chat will probably be the app we use to talk to it. It will let the company put advanced smart features into things we use every day. This whole project backs up Xiaomi’s main strategy: merging AI deeply into their 'Human x Car x Home' ecosystem. The goal is to connect your phone, car, and house seamlessly using AI.
Leaders are All In
Xiaomi Partner and President Lu Weibing said the company has been investing a lot of money in AI for several quarters now. He noted that developing the big language model has gone better than they even expected. He also stated what their next big goal is: to integrate AI deep into the physical world. Not just software.
The founder of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, is also involved. He is taking a direct role in strengthening the AI team. They are hiring top talent. Luo Fuli is one key person. She came from DeepSeek and joined the MiMo division this year. She is even listed as a corresponding author on a recent research paper done with Peking University. That’s very serious work.
We should get much more information soon. Lu Weibing and Luo Fuli are expected to reveal more details about Mi Chat on December 17. That is when Xiaomi holds its 2025 Human Car Home Ecosystem Partner Conference in Beijing. It is a big event and we will surely follow it.
