The GB47372-2026 standard is serious. It mandates needle-puncture tests — cells must not catch fire or explode when physically pierced. Thermal abuse testing runs at higher temperatures for longer durations. Drop tests, compression tests, short-circuit and overcurrent protection are all required. Analysts estimate roughly 70% of existing power bank production capacity won't survive the new requirements.
Xiaomi shipping compliant products before the deadline isn't just good PR. It signals that the company's battery supply chain was already operating near these standards — and it positions Xiaomi to capture market share from budget brands that can't clear the compliance bar.
The Smart Battery Data Feature Is New Territory
Most power banks are black boxes. You plug them in, they charge things, you have no idea how degraded the cell inside has become. The new standard changes that.
Xiaomi's 2026 Edition lets users read real battery data through a wired computer connection — cycle count, overall health, logged anomalies. A five-year recommended service life is printed directly on the device. That level of transparency is standard in laptop batteries but genuinely new for portable chargers.
Six Products, One Launch Window
The full lineup is still being revealed. Five of the six models include built-in charging cables — a practical choice that eliminates cable compatibility frustrations. The sixth is an ultra-thin model expected to build on the existing Jinshajiang series, which already pushed the form factor toward genuinely slim designs.
With the compliance deadline a year out, Xiaomi has time and product volume on its side. Smaller brands racing to catch up will face the cost and timeline pressure. Xiaomi doesn't.
