New
leaks surrounding the
Xiaomi 18 Fold point to a
camera setup with Leica Summilux lenses.
Xiaomi usually puts a lot of attention on specs and performance. So seeing the company push cameras this much would be interesting. Of course, this is still based on leaks, so don't get too excited just yet.
A camera setup for pretty much everything
According to Digital Chat Station, a leaker with a good record when it comes to Xiaomi leaks, the Xiaomi 18 Fold could feature a main
camera with an f/1.7 aperture, a telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 17mm ultrawide camera.
That's a pretty complete setup. You have the main camera for everyday photos, a telephoto lens, and an ultrawide camera for landscapes and larger scenes. Nothing too crazy. Still tho, it covers everything most people would need, and for a fold? I think its pretty good.
But it's still just a leak
Like I said before, these are only leaks. Digital Chat Station has been right with Xiaomi information in the past, but leaks are still leaks.
So for now, it's probably better to wait for Xiaomi's announcement before taking any of this as final.
Leica will stay
Xiaomi's partnership with Leica has become a part of Xiaomis camera identity. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to continue that partnership.
Xiaomi seems to be trying to make the 18 Fold feel like a proper flagship phone instead of just another
foldable with good hardware.
Foldables and cameras
Foldable phones have always had to makecuts somewhere. Usualy, cameras have been one of them. Fitting good camera hardware into a fold isn't exactly easy. We can see that with the new iPhone Fold as well.
But If these leaks turn out to be true, the Xiaomi 18 Fold could be a pretty interesting step forward. Foldable phones are getting more powerful every year. But cameras haven't always kept up with regular flagship phones.
Maybe that will change now. Who knows tho.
