Three big foldable phones are about to hit the market, and this fall could be a turning point for how we think about "phone shapes" altogether.
Huawei,
Xiaomi, and
Apple are all gearing up to launch new folding phones, and each one is taking a completely different path.
Huawei Mate XT 2
Huawei's been doing something that nobody else has really nailed yet, folding a phone not once, but twice. The Mate XT 2 builds on that tri-fold idea, unfolding into something closer to a small tablet instead of just a slightly bigger phone. Huawei's clearly not backing off this bold approach. If anything, they're doubling down on it, by launching it the same day as
Xiaomi!
Xiaomi 18 Fold
Xiaomi's taking a different route. Their Mix Fold line has always leaned into one thing: give people a huge screen when it's open, and don't skimp on power to get there. The Xiaomi 18 Fold looks set to keep that same philosophy. It will again be a wide, tablet-like display built for watching, working, and multitasking, all while packing serious specs.
iPhone Fold(Ultra)
And then there's
Apple. After years of rumors, the company's
foldable phone finally looks like it's actually happening. It's shaping up to be a wide-folding design too, similar to Xiaomi's approach rather than Huawei's tri-fold. The big question everyone's asking isn't really about the hardware, it's if Apple can make its whole software experience feel just as smooth and natural on a fold as it does on a regular iPhone. Well we cant be sure yet, but as i wrote about before the Iphone fold has been cutting some specs, but we should wait and watch, maybe itll turn out great!
Which is better?
Well non of these three phones are really trying to beat each other at the same game. Huawei's chasing after the tri-fold market wich worked for them in the past. Xiaomi's betting on raw size and power. And Apple's betting that people will pay a premium for its usual polish, just in a brand-new shape. So just buy what you want you know? We are here to appreciate all three phones, because every one of them has something going for it. The decision of wich one is purely on your own needs and wants.
