Xiaomi has officially started
selling its Smart Control Screen. This is the same model that was crowdfunded not long
ago. The standard version slides neatly into a regular 86-type wall switch box. Thus, it should fit into most homes without any extra work.
It comes in two familiar
finishes, white and grey. It keeps the 399-yuan (about $56) price that appeared during
crowdfunding. With this release,
Xiaomi is clearly aiming to make smart home
control feel more natural. It wants it to be more accessible to everyday users.
Design
and Build
It comes in a simple, bright look. At first glance, it looks more like a light switch than a smart gadget. This device uses a full display that is tap and swipe-responsive. Meaning it doesn't have the regular
buttons.
This makes it easy to adjust lighting or switch scenes in a few touches. It’s the kind of device that blends in quietly. However, it still feels useful
every time you walk past it.
Software,
System, and Device Support
Inside, the screen runs Xiaomi’s own
Hyper OS. This system is designed for smart home control. It also acts
as a gateway more than a screen, thanks to built-in Mesh 2.0 support.
One unit
can handle up to 48 devices. It works with over 5,500 products inside
the Xiaomi ecosystem. It also works with devices from third-party brands. System updates are delivered
OTA. Therefore, new features and fixes arrive on their own. Users do not have to install anything manually.
Control
Methods and Voice Assistant
Touch is only one way to use the
screen. It also supports voice commands through Xiao Ai. This allows you to
control devices with simple requests. It also allows users to ask follow-up questions or run routines
without touching the display. If you prefer using your phone, a remote control
is available too. This means you can adjust your home settings even when you’re
not there.
Wi-Fi,
Sensors, and Automation
This device supports dual-band Wi-Fi
to enable interconnectivity and a stable signal across different rooms. It also
comes with a 24GHz millimetre-wave radar sensor designed to detect movement
more accurately. Lights can turn on when you enter a room, dim when things are
quiet, or trigger routines based on presence. It also connects with Xiaomi
security cameras, letting you view what’s happening at home or set up automatic
responses when motion is detected.
Now that it’s officially available
to buy, the Smart Control Screen feels like a practical entry point for anyone
building a smart home. It’s compact, affordable, and built to manage a wide
range of devices without much effort, making everyday living a bit more fluid
and connected.
