As
expected, during the Mobile World Congress 2026 (MWC 2026) in Barcelona, Xiaomi introduced its Vision Gran Turismo concept. The futuristic supercar is clearly a design showcase, but it also shows the company’s growing ambition in the global automotive market.
The choice of MWC was strategic. As one of the world’s biggest tech events, it gave Xiaomi a global stage to highlight its push beyond smartphones and into high-performance electric vehicles. Obviously, it's rather curious to see a car at the MWC 2026, but since this is Xiaomi, a giant that made its name from the mobile scene, the event fits well.
Designed for the Real World and the Virtual Track
The Vision GT is part of the Gran Turismo concept car program, where brands design super-high-tech cars that also appear in the Gran Turismo 7 racing game on PlayStation. Xiaomi is the first Chinese brand ever invited to this group.
As expected, the Vision GT will be the first car from a Chinese brand to appear in Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 5. This partnership may also strengthen Xiaomi’s connection with performance enthusiasts and gaming audiences worldwide.
Visually, the concept stands out with:
- T-shaped headlights and an aggressive front splitter
- Scissor doors and sculpted aerodynamic body
- Large rear diffuser and racing-inspired cockpit
Inside, the minimalist cabin features a butterfly-style steering wheel, panoramic display, and a driver-focused layout built for immersion.
Global Sales Planned for 2027
Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, has
confirmed that the company plans to begin selling its vehicles outside China starting in 2027. Teams dedicated to overseas markets are already being formed, and retail expansion is underway in regions such as the United Kingdom. The CEO itself shared a couple of images showing the vehicle.
The Vision Gran Turismo is more than a concept car. It signals Xiaomi’s long-term strategy to become a serious global EV competitor. However, we don't expect this to go miles beyond a concept car. Other vehicles like the
SU7 or the
YU7 are more plausible across global markets.
